We're so obviously going to mess up, but that damned hope keeps fluttering away... Bonham Hoever McNally Rose Stevens Pearson Burger Johnson Vidigal Mmaee Leris Fielding, Junior, Clark, Gooch, Laurent, Bae, Hak, Gayle/Lowe, Wes As others have said, let's prove we are on the up. When we went 1-0 up against Bristol C I thought we were on the verge of something. Of course it was a crappy defeat. Need energy but also patience. When did we go 1-0 v Bristol C? Are yuo on about this season away match?

I know it's controversal, but he has played there before for Reading,. He also has pace and power enough to be hard to handle. I'd really like to see him given some games in that position. About as much movement as a cruise liner We already have some cruise liners playing up front, so why not try another one!

We already have some cruise liners playing up front, so why not try another one! Because it doesn’t work? So far none of our strikers have been prolific, so why so afraid of trying something else?🤔

Really looking forward to this one.
We shouldn’t be underestimating Cardiff, they are 5th for a reason. Grant, Robinson and Bowler will be a dangerous trio behind their striker. We know Bowler can cause anyone problems. That said, as long as we keep up with the intensity we’ve been playing with in the last few matches, no reason why we can’t win. Just hope we don’t think we’ve done the hard work and take the foot of the gas.
Should be a good game, 3 points and we will be motoring. The confidence to the players and fans that a 4th straight win would bring would be brilliant. Come on Stoke!

They average 37% possession away from home and that worries me.
All 3 of last weeks wins came with us having less than 50%.
This is the exact game AN highlighted in his post season review so hopefully he’s now got the tools to overcome it.

So what you’re saying is that Alex Neil, as the manager has to figure out a way to negate their approach? He gets paid handsomely for doing just that. Otherwise what’s the point in having a manager? A tough test for sure against a side who are doing better than expected but after beating 3 promotion contenders it shouldn’t be a worry really. Probably the biggest game of the season so far for me

Lots of people saying Wesley should start.
Do you not realise our Plan A currently relies on an aggressive press from the front three, and it’s been working well?
That’s why Gayle started at Boro. Out of him, Wes, and Lowe, he’s the best presser.
Wesley doesn’t give you that. He gives you a target, an outlet, and a physical threat which is good for when Plan A isn’t working or when holding on to a lead.
To start him would be to abandon our recently successful game plan. It won’t happen and nor should it.

I think we may see the vidigal show on sat. He’s due a goal or two.

Can’t see any sign of Mmaee in training there. Looking unlikely again for the weekend which is disappointing. Was hoping he had just been rested.

It wouldn’t be my plan A either more like plan F He’s a lucky throw of the dice for me he’s so unnatural and unpredictable he can set a chance or score by accident. 😆

Put this in the other thread but reposting here as it gives a bit of context...
Cardiff have played 9 out of the 13 sides below us in their 14 games, including the entirety of the bottom 5.
They've therefore played 5 teams above us so far. W1 D1 L3.
Weirdly they played away in every single one of those games, meaning all of their home games so far have come against sides in the bottom half.

Nigel Pearson said this about them after the 2-0 defeat last weekend:
"Cardiff might be doing okay, but I wouldn't put them up there with the best sides. At all. I wouldn't say that at all."
When it was pointed to him that Cardiff are now fifth, Pearson doubled down, adding: "Good for them. It doesn't make a difference in my opinion on whether they've got quality or not. You've asked me a question and I've told you what I think about it.
"There's nobody in this room that looks at that game, 'yeah Cardiff are a really good side compared to Bristol City'. I don't think. If you say that, then I'm not sure you're looking at the right game because I don't think it was a game with a lot of quality.

Neil has been too focused in the past on out-thinking the opposition rather than getting our players properly drilled into a consistent approach and identity. Now we’ve got the genesis of one we should keep at it.

I take your point we've been winning - but this is exactly the sort of game we need to adapt a little, I'm not sure we're ready to impose anything on other teams. I've said it to death but we play better against teams who want to play football against us. We don't fare so well with the ball trying to break down the likes of millwall. Think however we set up it'll be unattractive and tight.

13 played, 33 games to come, and I am confident that we will win at least 20 matches (hopefully more) this season. I reckon that we are easily a two goals better team than Cardiff.

Hopefully if we win this game and play good football any doubt in the manager will be put to bed by the doubters and they recognise their sins and repent, see the progress and fully get behind the manager.
After the years of abject failure, misery and forgettable football we look to have turned the rudderless ship onto the right path, I do pity anybody who can't get behind the manager for that because 'he's not my cup of tea', he'd have to commit a serious crime for me not to like the guy after reviving a sinking ship and having me looking forward to games again.
Going forward we'll win some, draw some and lose some but we'll win more than we lose at this revamped club.
It's easier to jump on board now so you can enjoy the success that's in the post haha
