After my son suggested Bamford won’t even hit the target, and the change in momentum the miss brought, and the context of the goal to follow… 6 points in 4 days…
Could that miss be a turning point?
I believe in this team and manager enough to suggest the plan would have continued should we have lost last night… but… when Adam missed that pen… it felt like we were down
When Bamford missed last night… it felt like there was some hope and perhaps a switch in the inevitable away end bounces we see so many of… people have talked, albeit tongue in cheek, about the club being cursed… but things feel a bit different with those two games, and I think the penalty captures all that for me

I'm glad he missed. Had that gone in we could have lost by 2 or 3 and that would have been so undeserved.
We deserved that win last night and it's some kind of payback for the 6 penalties the referees "coven" have admitted we should have had already.

The comments on the BBC match report suggest that to a man every Leeds supporter knew he was gong to miss I just wish they'd let us know in advance. The home crowd reaction felt like we'd scored a goal

Every time we win there seems to be a post asking whether it’s a “turning point”, as if we’re about to become world-beaters overnight on the flip of a coin. It doesn’t work like that.
But there are doubtless some positive signs from these two wins as the new signings look more and more settled and start to form partnerships all over the pitch. Rose/McNally, Pearson/Burger, Hoever/Leris, Vidigal/Mmaee all looking like they’re getting to know each other’s game and building a foundation to progress from.
I’m still not fully convinced that Neil is the right man to get a tune from this squad though, and ultimately how our season pans out will be much more down to how he performs rather than some arbitrary moment that went our way in a match in October.

Nice to see Bamford embraced by the nurturing Leeds family at the final whistle. They wanted him in the England squad two years ago and slaughtered Southgate for overlooking him

Yes, though even the Leeds fans knew it was going be THE turning point. Kindly, even though they (apparently) knew he was going to miss, they even went to the trouble of a musical intro before the pen: “Der Der Der Patrick Bamford” 🙂 There haven’t been many missed / saved penalties in Stoke’s favour in the last decade (Bonham at Cardiff is the only one I can remember). When was the last time an opposition player completely missed the target in a penalty against Stoke? 🤭

I think Wilmot getting injured is the lucky injury we needed.

My son goes to Catholic School, and he said "Dad, I've never prayed in my life and meant it because I think it's a load of rubbish, but I'm going to pray now for him to miss" - the look on his face when he skied it was phenomenal - somewhere between total joy that they'd missed the penalty, and a little cog somewhere deep inside thinking "oh shit, God might just exist".

To be honest we've had so many false dawns I refuse to believe any turning points until there is credible evidence in the form of points and position that indicates a top 3 position. I may be overly negative but just when I think we are on the up, Stoke go an balls it up again. I guess it's a defence mechanism after years of following Stoke 😁

I think Wilmot getting injured is the lucky injury we needed. A: just no, Rose is not as good and scary B: not sure how that relates to the penalty miss?

I thought we'd cracked it when we beat West Brom to go top a couple of years ago. We then proceeded to go on a run of defeats and the season petered out badly. It felt like things were on the up at the end of O'Neill's first season where we finished the season strongly but we couldn't carry the momentum over to the next season. This is a moment that could prove to be important. But on the laws of probability it's more likely to just be an enjoyable moment that won't have any major long term influence.

A) Rose and McNally looks a much better partnership than any involving Wilmot. B) Wilmot getting injured imo could be the pivotal moment this season. He's pretty bad and getting him out of the side should have been one of the key things in the summer.

Pivotal in keeping Neil in his job. That goes in and weve lost the game no doubt. It covered the cracks of a proper smash and grab performance. Poor starting 11. wrong subs at the wrong time but 3 more points away from relegation. The fans were magnificent to get us over the line and that made it a good night out.

As soon as it flew over the bar there was a violence in the atmosphere that just made me feel like we were going to go on and win that game. I thought it brought back our siege mentality type of atmosphere, something we've been missing for so many seasons now. Aside from fans regularly baracking the usual poor refs performance, we're rarely fired up enough to keep it going & in a positive way at that aswell. Last nights penalty was clearly a major turning point in the way the game & outcome swung, & it did start to invoke that old 'we're being hard done to here', if we can raise our levels in the stands we can transmit it onto the field and help the players to bring us the 3pts. That's certainly what happened last night! Not to the same level as, granted, but last night on a slightly smaller scale created the Stoke v Man City kind of atmosphere when we went on to win 1-0 with Beatties headed goal after Rory Delap had been sent off. Think the atmosphere had been pretty damn good actually even prior to that penalty miss last night, but you could sense the very special 'we can help our boys out here' type of atmosphere emit as soon as Bamford skied that peno over. I reckon the majority of that team last night couldn't of helped but notice that extra level of noise and passion the Stokies in the stands can create when they give us that belief that we can win the match, which in turn helped us carry them over the line. I know Stoke fans are renowned for moaning alot but it doesn't take much for us to raise our levels & it just might be at the stage where we can help the team & they can give us that hope and belief that helps the fans raise their game aswell. & whilst it's a fine balance, its one that when happening is actually quite easy to strike & is to the benefit of everyone wearing red and white stripes!
