His wife of 57 years has passed.
Apparently the only person he was terrified of.
RIP

Very sad news and she must have been a quite formidable woman if he was scared of her.

57 years of marriage is some going, can't begin to think how much of a void that must leave in the other person's life once one of you passes away.
RIP Cathy Ferguson x

Should imagine even a figure as mentally strong as SAF will struggle to overcome the gaping loss after so long, seen quite a few people effectively give up on life after losing their lifetime partner.
I hope he keeps it together.
RIP.

Fergie will be broken. A real shame, hopefully he finds the strength to get through it. Many his age don’t unfortunately

Condolences to the Ferguson family. I know Sir Alex will be bereft. My stepdad is so lost without my mum, who passed away unexpectedly 9 weeks ago. It will be very raw for them. I completely know what it will be like for the family. May she RIP.

RIP Cathy Ferguson x My grandparents were married for 75 years. My grandad went first then my Nan about 4 weeks later having previously being in really good health. Horrible to see such a rapid deterioration of a close loved one

I hope he keeps it together. RIP. Watching United at the moment is probably enough to make him want to call it quits as it is! 🙂 On a serious note, I’m sure his family and (most of) the football world will rally round him. Condolences also to Darren and the other Fergie offspring, who have also lost their Mum.

Must be very difficult after being with your soul mate for the majority of life. He is part owner in a number of fantastic race horses, hope the interest in them keeps him going and the football community

A dedicated sea view bench in Brixham - Devon caught my attention once initially for the couples surname which I found quite unique. But when I read the whole dedication message I thought OMG that's just so apt, & ties in with some of the examples that posters have given on here.. It reads:
'Russell & Mollie Christmas' 1916 - 2011 Together for 74yrs Parted for 11 Days Reunited
