Very sad to hear.
He had his fair share of stick (being Vale commentator in the nineties) but he could give as good as he got, always in good humour (along with some one-liners you won't forget).
RIP

RIP George A very decent commentator, he was very enthusiastic at his job. remember him saying about a vale shot “ he shoots hard and low , over the bar “ 😁🤣🤣 His commentary on pompey v stoke many years ago is legendary. Beeston scored a worldy from 35 yards. Calm as you like, Andrew’s described it as “Beeston takes a shot. Goal” In added time, they get a corner, Pompey head it down and it bounces over bar. George is going nuts proclaiming Pompey have got a late equaliser before disgustingly claiming “oh it’s gone over the bar”. He was genuinely gutted that we’d won. RIP yer Vale Bastard!

I remember him having a stand up row with McGarry outside the hospitality tent in the queue at Newcastle Town pre season in front of us, was better than the game. I think he'd just left R Stoke and didn't have a pass to get in. A few lads were mocking him and he was giving the anti Stoke stuff to them, not in a joking way. He then had the nerve to ask us if we could get him in ...no , as you obviously hate Stoke so much. A few weeks later he was at it again with some lads in the Waddington suite...Stoke this and that. Wasn't he a Walsall fan anyway?

Great Lou quote here: ‘One of the journalists from Radio Stoke was called George Andrews. One game against Port Vale, a derby match, I said to Neil [Baldwin], “If that b*stard comes down, don’t let him in because he slagged the team off.” I was joking. I’m sitting in the dugout at 3pm and security comes down and says, “George Andrews has been locked up in the laundry for two hours, should we let him out?” ‘The game has kicked off and he’s meant to be doing commentary for Radio Stoke. We go to the laundry and Nello has got him bound and gagged, tied to the chair.’ RIP George, his call of the Bogie goal after 11 seconds was pretty iconic too (Moreso if you're a Vale fan!)

There is a picture of this incident in the "Marvellous" book, and also a picture of George at an event with myself, Nello, Micky Pejic and Neville Chamberlain, wearing an extraordinary black and white striped suit. I am deeply shocked and saddened to read this. George was a very likeable and caring guy, even if a tad eccentric at times. Like Nigel Johnson, he was one of the radio voices of the potteries for many years. He rang me only the other day to ask how Nello is. (Nello had a fall a few weeks ago and suffered a hairline fracture. He was in hospital for about a week but is now back home, but confined to barracks for a few weeks for healing and rehabilitation. Missing his Stoke games of course, but progressing well and in quite good spirits.) RIP George.

Sad news. George was definitely a Failite but, nevertheless, he was a brilliant eccentric character. Sincere condolences to his family and close friends.

He told this story (a bit differently) on the under the cosh podcast at his shelter in Hanley. The whole podcast is entertaining and well worth a listen. Edit: someone above has posted the pod

Has he not been in recent press conferences?
I’m sure I heard him in the last couple of weeks, or is that someone else?
