Simply out of interest I wonder what the story is behind the story is behind his loan at Stoke, his subsequent move to Sunderland and his current success (all the very best to him). .
Failure on our behalf, luck on Sunderland’s behalf, insightful management or purely coincidental and one of those quirks of football?

I genuinely thought he looked reasonably bright when he was here Was bemused by the derision he got Same with Angus Gunn
Gunn Northington-Davies Clarke, JPB all good players I see Sima getting some form up at Rangers too Not sure Matondo is doing much though
Sterling is the one who we really missed out, and he clearly got good money up there, shame.

He was coming off the back of a major injury wasn't he and was bang out of minutes on the pitch IIRC?

Been a fan since Leeds to be honest, mainly as I love a gangly winger He wasn’t too bad here, good technical player that linked play up well. Mowbray seems like a great man manager who improves players, so he’s gone to another level under him at Sunderland. It’s a far cry from what we have at the moment where it feels like players are getting worse, which is a huge shame. Fingers crossed our next manager is in that mold of man managers who can improve players. That’s where the wins, promotions and ultimately money will come from for teams like us.

it perhaps looked from the outside that he joined us a year early and came good at sunderland.
i think this may have put us off going for Andrew Moran ...another talented youngster ...going to come good at some point ...but when?
Think Moran went to Blackburn ? not sure ? but i see his picture in the paper celebrating a goal , so he is probably coming good already

Got a couple of niggly injuries during his loan spell which derailed it ultimately, shame as he's clearly a talent.........

We look more of the issue than the ex-players sadly.

He was very young, had barely played football for 2 seasons and was also recovering from a long term injury I think. More a case of having him at the wrong time I suspect than anything we or he did wrong particularly.

He wasn't fully fit when he was here. He looked bright but never got into his stride but you could tell he was struggling a bit with the pace of the game. He hadn't played for a while when he came here. He's obviously fulfilling his potential now after playing regular football.
I dont think its qualifies as another stick to beat the club tbh

We would sign Leonardo da Vinci on loan and he’d break his finger and draw a picture of a stick man, lose his place to Jordan Thompson then resurface at Coventry or Aberdeen and paint the fucking Mona Lisa.

I could tell he was a good player when he was here.
Never quite happened for him during that loan but there were definite signs of his quality. Some fans did nothing but slate him, however. You can probably guess who his main hater was.

"He's not the next Thibaud Verlinden, he's a very naughty boy."

Those list of players above is interesting including THB, Ostigard and Matondo aswell as Clarke. All signed by MON which proves maybe our recruitment under him wasn't so bad and maybe whilst there were oversights like a lack of a tackling DM, where a passing DM was his preference, he was starting to go down the right track and was targeting the right players.
All water under the bridge now though which is a shame.

Perhaps we've just become a bit of a graveyard for players.
And actual football itself.

The common denominator is Stoke City. All players doing well. We just don't seem to play them right and that lad we had from Villa on loan - winger- he would play a good game then he would be dropped by O’Neil in favour of a back 5. I thought Clarke showed good signs for us and a good run would have come good. Typical.

Young players are inconsistent, it's a shame a lot of fans don't appreciate that and are too quick to judge.

I think the simple answer is minutes on the pitch. He came to us in Jan 2022 and looked talented but was inconsistent. Since then, he's made 68 starts is getting fitter, stronger and better with each game. He'll be a PL player next season regardless of what happens to us this season.
