Cash is dead. If you don’t buy crypto now you’ll all be slaves on social credit within ten years. Probably. Or you will be locked in your house because you've been a naughty boy and the government haven't given you your wages for the week, cash is king👌👍 My point exactly. Centralised cbdc’s are the opposite to decentralised crypto. And cash is dead. As we’re already witnessing.

I've given in like a sheep on this one embarrassingly. I rarely use cash now, even though I know the government want us cashless so they can watch every penny we spend and where it goes amongst other things. It's just too convenient to keep tapping away, especially at the bar. I'm fairly certain they can't refuse cash if you desperately wanted to make a point though. It can't be classed as theft lawfully if you're leaving the money. Personally I think this one is a losing battle. They can refuse cash, it's entirely up to the business. It's a complete myth that businesses can't refuse cash. They can refuse the cash but there wouldn't be much point in them calling the police if you took the product anyway. The police would have to prove the intention to steal, leaving the money on the counter would prove there wasn't an intention to steal.

I’m a middle aged man who only really uses card
However, cash is just as good. It’s only the Lazy fuckers who can’t be arsed to take the cash to the bank.
Also the thick staff can’t work out what 10-5 is

Went to Trentham Gardens last year for one of their concert thingies. The ticket had 'this is a cashless event' printed on it... 10 minutes in, all the machines went down....it was no longer a cashless event.

Living here in the US, I never carry cash, (And I'm an old F*ck) they've built up an infrastructure that supports that well. But at all of our stadiums and 99% of public events, they take either cash or card and that's the way it should be. Pretty discriminatory practice in my book when they enforce ONLY cash or card - shut the hell up and take the damned money in the form that the customers HAVE it, you're a business ffs.
I can only think of the great Yogi Berra quote, "And they give you cash, which is almost as good as money!"

Apple Pay? Google pay? Have these things hit Stoke on Trent yet? How are these people surviving the other 6 days of the week? It's a wonder they can get their head round the season cards. If the club had anything about them they'd print paper booklets and let them hand them over to a dedicated old turnstyle. An awful lot of takeaways and many pubs in the potteries only accept cash. Yes its backward and behind everyone else but hey that's Stoke for you. I think you'll find that's tax dodging for you. See, also, barbers and taxi drivers. And that's nationwide not just SOT.

I think it’s crazy that it’s card only. Choice is surely the better option. Can see why you’d have card only queues/booths but you need the option.

It's all a mute point anyway because generally you don't hand over goods without payment first.

People seem to be forgetting that card terminal providers CHARGE the businesses for processing card payments. Now, since covid, I haven't seen any small businesses with signs saying "minimum spend £x" or "x charge for card purchases" but someone is paying for this. It's understandable that some small businesses don't want to take card payments, my local chippy for one, and my hairdresser.
Others do now, with no minimum spend, but it's embarrassing offering up a card for 50p, and how much does that cost them in fees?
If you buy tickets on line from Stoke City you pay £1 per ticket "transaction fee". I'm guessing cash payments don't pay that, not sure about card payments at the ticket office, face-to-face.
Cash is clearly no longer 'king' but I very much doubt that it will be gone in my lifetime

Cash is a promisery note. Its legal tender. Until they change the law of course. Any lawyer worth his salt would ensure no conviction in this scenario. And the coppers would just laugh anyway. Unless it's Scottish . Amazingly shops (in England) CAN refuse to take Scottish money...hey ho See below, credit cards aren't legal tender either Many common and safe payment methods such as cheques, debit cards and contactless aren’t legal tender. But again, it makes no difference in everyday life. You might have heard someone in a shop say: “But it’s legal tender!”. Most people think it means the shop has to accept the payment form. But that’s not the case. A shop owner can choose what payment they accept. If you want to pay for a pack of gum with a £50 note, it’s perfectly legal to turn you down. Likewise for all other banknotes, it’s a matter of discretion. If your local corner shop decided to only accept payments in Pokémon cards that would be within their right too. But they’d probably lose customers. Legal tender has a narrow technical meaning which has no use in everyday life. It means that if you offer to fully pay off a debt to someone in legal tender, they can’t sue you for failing to repay.

Who hasn't got a bank card this day and age? Lots of kids and some older people i don't always carry my cards especially if i have come from work like last Sunday, should be a facility for cash i will always use some cash until the day i snuff it or else that will be another thing the powers that be will take away from us. I bet you carry your phone... just use that. Takes about 30 seconds to add your card to your phone then milliseconds to use it.

I'll remind the thousands of kids without a bank account / card of this shall I? You can look further than the end of your nose every now and then you know? Could it help the obesity crisis that kids can't buy the overpriced uber processed shite on offer? By stopping these poor waifs we could indirectly be saving them from a life ruined by diabetes, heart disease and even cancer. As for pensioners, fuck them. If they want to be big fat bastards and obese slobs that's up them though. We can advice them and encourage them but ultimately if they want 3 wrights pies 3 cheese and bacon oatcakes and 7 packets of quavers that's up to them and their problem.

The part solution might be if ST & membership cards were loadable with cash in advance of a game ..thereby reducing the reticence some have to the use / or taking bank cards to crowded insecure environments ( data theft and pick pocketing , loss ) that if lost provide access to people’s bank accounts or the issues around cancelling / blocking , reissuing cards in an environment where mobile phone access is poor at best .. whilst also helping those without access to bank cards Though in addition to any security / cost advantages card use compared to cash gives to the club ( that’s club not fans ) - a figure each individual business will naturally do their sums about ) I suspect card is also preferred by clubs / licensing officers as one defence element ( a weak one ) against under age alcohol sales As for card use elsewhere , don’t do it and leave your mobile at home when you’re out 🙂 .. they even know ( and you can see for yourself what time you enter the ground using your ST ) Below from the Supporters council minutes in Feb 23 .. not aware of the current update ..or indeed how change to vouchers during the trial was given .. www.stokecityfc.com/news/2023/february/24/supporters-council-meeting-minutes/OUTCOME OF CONCOURSE CASH SALES TRIAL The Club confirmed that small scale trials of a cash alternative (pre-paid vouchers) was successful and that they are now working to make the service available to those who require it. The Club expressed that the intention is that this will be a bespoke service for those who are typically only able to use cash as their sole method of payment. The Club confirmed their intention to be a cashless stadium yet understand their responsibility to help those in need.

One problem with cashless is when you have your account blocked due to suspected fraudulent activity.
Like hartshill, happened to me 3 times now, and you basically cant function for 5 days
Happened to me when I was on holiday and that was really shit, as well as the fact that it means about 2 hours on the phone trying to talk to someone at your bank which is not straightforward in most parts of Cornwall, or anywhere these days.
I wasn't even sure if the texts I was getting blocking my account were from the bank or a fraudster.
I had £40 in cash on me, luckily there are petrol stations that accept cash, so managed to get home.
Always carry some cash would be my advice.

Villa do a scheme where you can load money on your season ticket or membership card and get loyalty points back on your account when making purchases on it.
A perfect solution for kids and those without bank cards.

What I said wasn't rubbish because mine offered payment in legal tender. What you said was rubbish though because you were talking about a trade. Legal tender only applies to paying off a debt, not paying for goods. If I refuse to sell you something and you take it, that is stealing. It's all a mute point anyway because generally you don't hand over goods without payment first. Generally no, I'm thinking more at the counter in the supermarket when you have the goods in your hand and they say sorry card only type scenario. If you refuse to sell me something then that again is a different scenario entirely. If you are selling your property, say its your old lawn mower and you decide its no longer for sale that's different. But if you work in b&q and the company clearly exists to sell such products and is telling customers that they can't use cash/currency that is perfectly lawful to use to obtain it and they are being honest in their intentions to purchase it then its not a theft and hopefully never will be. Below is an explanation of what has to be proven for something to be a theft and for the police to give a shit about it. www.claims.co.uk/knowledge-base/offences/points-to-prove-theft
