Are they taking the absolute piss!!!
Basically if you live in keele, Silverdale or madeley there is no way of getting into Newcastle or beyond unless you sit in 30mins of traffic lights or go miles out of your way as they have put roadworks on the only 2 roads into town at the same time for over a week.
F#*King prices, anyone know a way I can complain without giving myself a heart attack?

I'm always particularly impressed when, as happened the other day, they close a road and then put temporary traffic lights on the diversion.
It's as though there's no joined up thinking going on at all.
There probably isn't.

It depends whether the borough they're in is a permitting authority or not.
If they are complain to them about the timetabling of the works to run concurrently.
If not complain to the utility doing the works, who will essentially have to notify the local authority about their intent, but the authority will be able to do little to stop it. You'd be pissing in the wind.
If they're A roads the authority is the Highways Authority I think, no the local council.
People make the mistake of blaming councils when it's rarely highways work being undertaken e.g. resurfacing. A big hole in the ground is usually a utility company fucking around. The caveat to that would be the recent District Heat Network works in Stoke.

This was Leek Road a couple of weeks ago, they shut the road from the bottom of Limekiln towards Carmountside and routed traffic through Sneyd Green where they had temporary traffic lights somewhere near the Sneyd Arms, I tried to be clever and followed a cop car down some side roads and got lost 🤦 Looked like they were resurfacing, I don't suppose they can do it overnight due to disturbing the residents? One from a few years ago was a stunner, they shut the M1 Northbound for the night from J19 and put major roadworks on the M6, I'd set off late to avoid traffic and found myself in a two hour jam at midnight 😐 I emailed the highways agency but never got a reply, I imagine they had a deluge of similar emails that night to be fair.

Was it due to the DHN that Leek Rd by the Post Office/Uni was dug up half a dozen times? I was beginning to think someone had found gold down there 😃

In reading this I had just posted a thread about the introduction of a universal residential area speed limit of 20MPH in Wales.
More restriction and frustration for motorists in the Principality. And of course nationally. Drivers contribute immense sums in taxes to the Exchequer, but face a deteriorating situation on Britain's roads, making driving in general a stressful experience. Roadworks and closures are everywhere, as referenced above, but particularly on Motorways and major routes. On M Ways necessary road workings were once managed with reduced lanes and contraflow systems, but now the authorities don't bother and just close the road, particularly overnight, and use interminable diversions where you are stuck in a line of HGV's off the Motorway, stretching for miles.
Some of the roadworks mentioned by the OP are absurd. In Somerset we have very few main roads and A roads. But if the council have a closure of an A road, they are obliged by Law to offer a diversion route of comparable road standard, meaning in our case another A road. This commonly results in road closures being set up with diversions of 30 or more miles around the area.
Motorists of course face daily frustrations now from potholed damaged road surfaces, seemingly random variable speed limits, City Congestion charges and anti pollution restrictions and so on, on a regular basis.
By the time we get into the next General Election, issues for Road users and Motorists, are likely to become major talking points and voting influences for the citizens and communities nationally.

Finished it after much inconvenience and I shit you not, 2 months later one of the WiFi providers digs most of the fucker up to put cables into the ground. Absolute fookin morons organise this shit. Its why most of out taxes are wasted and why things like the NHS don't work properly. They piss money all over the shop because they are bloody useless.

Happens all the time, no coordination or planning involved. The classic trick of diversions with roadworks on them is an absolute gem.
The festival park roundabout that’s been widened is a bit of a joke really. 9 months it’s taken to widen a single junction.
The single most frustrating thing is seeing roadworks completed and then someone else comes and immediately digs it up.
Milton crossroads is a prime example, I can’t even think how many times that road has been dug in the last 2 years.

Milton was hilarious, when my lad was working in Endon, I was going through the damn things at the crossroads 4 times a day, for months it was dug up more often than not, then on his last day at the place I went to pick him up, thinking thankfully I don't have to go through those bloody lights any more and they'd disappeared 😂

Mainly Severn Trent all across the city putting in new pipes. All at once because of course they never bothered to do preventative maintenance.

They've connected it towards the Goods Yard but the real question are when will it be operational, and why has it not been connected to the properties and businesses that suffered the disruption of its installation over the years? It's a massive £19m white elephant for the city and nobody is even aware of it.
