www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66765708Hosting the Euros next summer. Lost 4-1 to Japan at home yesterday. Manager sacked. What's happening? Could this all just be setting the stage for another classic 'never bet against the Germans' scenario?

Could this all just be setting the stage for another classic 'never bet against the Germans' scenario? Haven’t been the same since Klose retired. [I’m sure I’m wrong there and they were good for a little while longer but it can’t be that far off].

Germany are 3rd favourites to win the next euros which is not what they would expect as hosts...
England. 4/1. France. 9/2. Germany. 6/1. Spain. 15/2. Italy. 9/1. Portugal. 10/1. Netherlands. 12/1. Belgium. 12/1.
Could they still win it? Of course they could.
Will they be happy as 3rd favouritses? Will they fuck.
Is it worth a cheeky bet on them at those odds? Absolutely.

Portugal probably worth a punt Can't see either Belgium or Holland winning it or Italy Anyone other than France, England, Spain or Portugal would be a shock However maybe next summer maybe something will change

It depends on how you see it.
Japan will win the next World Championship. Both men and women. Can you bet on it? 😛
At least the most developing nation in world football today.

Economy in free fall.
Didn’t win any medals at the recent World Athletics Championships.
The power house of Europe is struggling.

Some people must have more money than sense making England favourites. Any one of those top ten would beat us in a one off game, whilst Southgate is in charge

Economy in free fall. Didn’t win any medals at the recent World Athletics Championships. The power house of Europe is struggling. Also at the risk of getting all EE, when the lead article in the The Spectator of all publications this week is that the UK is f**ked (see the excellent cover illustration of Britannia literally shielding herself from falling concrete), I think we can safely say this country needs a massive change more than Germany does.

They lack quality in attack, creativity missing Solid team though Better team would have beaten them yesterday, they were so fragile at the back. Shame no Ferguson as some decent ball into the box, begging for someone on the end of it. Not impressed with them at all but for 40 minutes Ireland played some great stuff, pressed them but ran out of steam. The most wide open tournament can think of coming up. I'd say are between 8 and 10 sides with a good chance of winning it

Certainly should be one of the real favourites but think you're right. Jose would have won something with England by now

Between France and England for me.
Spain and Italy have still work to do in the groups too before even thinking about the tournament. If Spain slip up away at Norway our group's back to a three horse race especially if we do our usual fucking it up in Georgia routine.

On Germany - the economy is over dependent on manufacturing and has been slow to adapt to structural change to services and hi tech sectors and has over reliance on China for exports and off shore manufacturing. They have fixation with keeping inflation national debt low but the downside is that their infra structure is run down. Politically they seek stable governments through PR and coalitions although now we have the radical rightwing Alternatives for Germany AFD party popular in the still unequal East. Regional devolution is historically strong.
On football the national team has been in decline for years - now I think man for man they are comparatively weak and don't have the durability which made them a championship winning in the past. The younger generation has now yet fully appeared with various players not really showing maturity - too many older players are still hanging around. I don't think winning is on for next year semis at best.
Not without its problems Germany is in better shape than the UK - only the language, weather and food would stop me living there.
