We used to impersonate his impersonations at school.
Funny thing is the kids of today won't know Mike Yarwood from Mike Parkinson!
RIP Mike Yarwood

Young uns wouldn't have any idea how hugely famous Mike Yarwood was. He got the Saturday night in winter slot and that was seriously huge. One of his Christmas specials got a record for the phenomenal viewing figures

Another career destroyed by Thatcher! 😒😁

He developed chronic debilitating stage fright that drove him to alcoholism. He suddenly retired from public life.

A huge star at the time and from comments from current era of impressionists was a massive influence. Did the political ones well and some of contemporary media figures, world has moved on but 20million+ for an Xmas day show is wild numbers. Didn't know about the stage fright I just assumed he'd taken the money and run as his career dried up RIP Mike

He developed chronic debilitating stage fright that drove him to alcoholism. He suddenly retired from public life. I saw him in the Tower Ballroom around 4 pm one afternoon in 1985, very drunk but so was I, I wasn't performing that night though! Was quite sad! I think he did a documentary about his problems or some sort of podcast with another comedian. Came over as a lovely bloke.

I thought he'd gone long ago, he seemed old to me in the 70s, sad to hear he'd had troubles, RIP.
