I’ve said it for along time now but it seems it’s becoming more and more important now Yes teams tend to sit off and allow possession to the opposition when in front but we had numerous examples last season when we couldn’t get back into games and this season in the 3 games we’ve lost our possession stats are Ipswich 57% Millwall 66% Preston 70% Opening teams up when we go behind has got to be something that must improve if we’re to have a good season or just score the 1st goal😊

You can't hear a Championship manager interviewed these days without the sage words 'the first goal will be vital'.
And you think to yourself 'of course it will, it counts towards the final score!'

AN said he was bringing in players who should be able to break down sides that sit back, unlike last season, yesterday showed nothing has changed.

It’s the biggest issue for all squads in this league (perhaps all leagues). In the Pulis years, how many games did we win by scoring first and just setting up shop and staying disciplined?
Most teams in this league are big, physical and disciplined out of possession. It’s very hard to break a team down if that team can stay concentrated for the remainder of the game.

Well it certainly is in our games, how many times have we come from behind to win in the last 7/8 seasons?

Swansea and Bristol City away last season are the only ones that springs to mind
Certainly at home it seems every time we go 1 down its game over. Pisses me right off

Lowe set Preston up yesterday with exactly this in mind and because we aren’t quite good enough to break decent sides down and equally we aren’t quite good enough to keep a clean sheet - we lost. It’s a well worn path. We should have at least fixed the defence by now but for some reason Neil hasn’t managed to do it.
