I remember Dennis and Chris Chilton having a right stranglehold on one another- it made it into The Sunβs football Annual for the year. My Dad must have hated having a 10 year old asking to go home after8 minutes, when we were 2-0 down. Snow, great atmosphere , and some of the songs on the way back were a bit non understandable to a 10 year old!

Ken Wagstaff looked more like a darts player from Longton.

Yeah, went on a Stoke supporters coach with one of my dads workmates, unusual as we lived outside the potteries (Rugeley). Can still remember the hull youths chant "tigers, tigers" when they were two up, was on one side of ground paddock. Trip back was fun, stopped for a break in the north Derby/Nottingham wilds, a miners club with a band on, took over the place and i was bemused watching our oldies charming the local ladies. Dropped off at Stoke and then a white knuckle drive back to Rugeley with the driver many pints under his belt, thick fog and bugger all visibility all the way. Days before drink driving was clamped down on of course.

I remember it well. Thought the game might be off due to the fog. Great game and result. Called at Doncaster on the way back for fish and chips. Memorable away day.

Yes, great day. I thought we'd blown it after going behind so early on, but once our first goal went in we thought there was only going to be one winner !
Where have all the years gone ?

Remember it well, also remember how cold it was. TC is still the best ever 1 on 1 finisher against a keeper I can remember. Great days.

In fairness to Greenhoff at Hillsborough i think it bobbled just as he hit it(heart breaking) The Hull game was one of the greatest games i`ve seen it had everything electric atmosphere, packed stadium and one of the great comebacks with the stakes so high.Stokes support in the cup matches in those days was incredible

One of my memories of this game followed the final whistle. We were on the terrace behind the goal where the railway station was based. We were basically in a congested hysterical mass when the Police arrived to force a path through the crowds for a VIP who happened to be the match referee. Canβt remember his name but apparently he needed to get to the main railway station for a train back to London. Given the outcome of the match he was granted a rousing reception. Over 40000 + attendance at that game and Hull were managed by a young Terry Neill.
