Does anyone know what happened to Surrey Stokie? Apologies if I have missed anything but she used to often post on the Oatcake & sometimes pop-in to the Cricket Club before a match. I don’t know why I have suddenly thought about it but she stood outside the Bet365 before the first match there and asked me to take her photo before she went in. I didn’t know her personally but came across as a really nice elderly lady. I think she used to attend some of the away games as well. Be good to know if she’s still with us.

The first time I spoke to Monica was in Marseille in France 98 as hundreds of North Africans and England fans were scrapping in front of us. I’ve said hello to her and chatted ever since, lovely woman and a seriously devoted Stoke fan……

She’s fine Very frustrated with the additional time added on at the end of the recent games and the dash to get back to Stoke station Not to mention trains being cancelled Amazing fan

She is fine and as well as can be. She joins in a chat at half-time every game with our group. She is finding it increasingly difficult to be present at all games (home & away). Indeed for the home games at night, she struggles to get a hotel for the overnight stay as the train system does not allow her to get back down south in good time. Even Saturday games are harder as finishing after 5pm means a mad dash to the station by whatever means she can. Trus diehard fan to the end, and a wonderful lady, was on many supporters councils. Is it common knowledge she is an ex-Olympian?

I had the pleasure of sitting next to her on a train from Euston to Watford in the early 1990's. She was a pleasure to speak to, and a fountain of knowledge on all things SCFC. I hope she is well

I remember travelling up from Euston on a trip to the Notts County promotion game organised by Monica in 1979. I can’t believe she is still travelling home and away. A lovely lady and a true supporter

A lovely lady and a true supporter Did you have trouble with the Millwall fans, I was on that train but in the standard seats, not the reserved ones at the back for Stoke fans. Glad she's OK, always chatted with her when I see her, since the 70s, lovely lady

Glad to hear she is ok. Childhood friend who was an international javelin thrower for England. She could throw a cricket ball further than any of the lads around Heath House Lane where we lived. Best Wishes Monica from Malcolm if you read this!

Great lady. Spent time with her and the London supporters club on train trips to see Stoke many times in the late 80s early 90's. Monica sent numerous photocopies of Stoke articles to Oz in the 70s as well, to a teenager looking for anything Stoke related. There wasnt much Stoke news in country NSW in thoae days !

Most of the Stoke party were family types as I remember. Did you ever play football on the Scrubs with the supporters club team?

I think it was Monica who organised a mini bus from Euston to Liverpool for a mid week FACup replay in the 80’s. 87/88 I think. A small group of us left mid afternoon & got back to London early morning. Unfortunately we lost 1-0 from memory. Great lady

In the late 70's, about '77 I joined the London supporters club, I was 13. I got the No 68 from West Croydon to Euston and we would meet under the clock at Euston. I use to meet Gordon Morse for the bus. We would meet Monica, Nigel, Who Worked at Heathrow I think, he did the sports stuff, football at Wormwood Scrubs football fields and various Darts meets ups against other supporters clubs in London, Steve I think did the travel, Malcolm and many other I can't remember. Great days, even travelling up vs Oldham in the cup to see it postponed at ht, the Sunderland match was called off as they couldn't travel down because of the weather, found out at Stoke station ....But the best was Notts Co, amazing day....Still pissed off about there being no film of that day.
As I said, fantastic days and Monica was then and still is now, an absolute Star.

Monica reads The Oatcake message board everyday and is delighted to read all the lovely messages on this thread Atm the system is not allowing her to post any replies, she hopes that this can be resolved asap
She stills tries to get to most games, home and away, recently very frustrated at all the transport disruption affecting her travel plans as she makes most of her journeys by train
Just this last weekend there was a mad dash to Stoke station as the scheduled later train was cancelled. The increase in additional minutes so far not helping
She’s looking forward to replying to her messages and posting on the threads very soon
She loved the post from marylandstoke re taking long throws

The Club should have Coates Bentley parked up and ready to whisk her to Stoke Station after the final whistle 😊

I bumped into Monica on the train from Crewe to Preston last season, she had boarded in London and randomly asked me if I knew where the train was stopping as there were no announcements, she didn’t know I was a Stoke supporter when she asked. As she was travelling alone I sat with her for the remainder of her journey, there was a Derby supporter sitting nearby on his way to Accrington, he was amazed at her football knowledge. We parted ways at Preston station as I was heading to find a decent real ale bar (there are loads in Preston) and she went off on search of a sandwich. I bumped in to her at Preston station on the way back and she told me she was having difficulty logging into her Oatcake account, which I helped her to sort out. She did say she doesn’t post much but she likes to keep in touch.
