Thought he was very good today. Gets a lot of stick so I know some on here won't give him credit for today still. But deserves a mention. Very good against WBA and good today as well. Broke a lot up Did what Ipswich did to us. As pretty as seeing Vanessa Feltz in a Wonder Woman outfit but what was needed at times.

Did what the manager wanted. Unfortunately whatever he does some people have made their minds up and can't be objective about him.

I've never got the stick he gets. He's a meat and potatoes midfielder at this level and his ability reflects what he probably costs us. He's an invaluable member of the squad for me and he showed today that there is life outside of the much fabled Ben Pearson.

Broke a lot up I thought he had a very good game today. He did all that was asked of him. Good energy, plenty of tackles and broke up play. They didn’t score. It’s a win for him and the team.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but there was a moment in the first half where Enda had gone forward and lost the ball, Thompson busted a gut and nullified the threat really well.
A good game from him today, and a cracking foul for the yellow to stop the threat in the second half.
Solid performance and allowed Pearson to rest, I have a feeling Pearson is carrying a knock. More cover needed in midfield for sure.

Don't think he's mobile enough to do what Pearson does in front of a back four though. Pearson is surprisingly quick over the ground and has a better football brain but he's definitely been carrying a knock. We need another defensive midfielder for sure. That's not to knock Thompson, he's a very useful squad player.

This is the problem. He is the scapecoat. If they scored from something he clearly wasn't involved in he would have still been blamed by some. I like how you're moaning about something that hasn't happened because of an assumption you've made 😂 Not an assumption, and the fact i'm not the only one who said it says it all. He is always getting blamed on here and even for things he wasn't involved on by SOME posters. The comment I made was based on things that have happened before, people love blaming him

I've defended him a lot and happy with his showing today. Nice one Jordan.
He did his job, nothing spectacular but the shot going into the top corner would have made the performance.

He has been solid in both the games he has started so far, but I still miss the Pearson from last season.

Maybe. AN was quite open at the fans forum that he selects players based on how they apply themselves during the week. I also think that Pearson has not quite got going yet either in terms of his performances so far this season. Good management. A little kick up the bum does some players the world of good and if he was carrying a slight knock it's still good management. Thompson is a much more limited player but he's a reliable squad member when called upon. Agreed! 👍

Until he was booked I didn't really remember him being on the pitch but I guess that's sometimes no bad thing. Someone in the middle who goes about his business quietly

Thompson is a much more limited player but he's a reliable squad member when called upon. Every player is a squad player - there isn't a fixed starting 11 and a set of backups - players are getting picked on merit, not based on some predetermined pecking order. The fact is so far Thompson has played better than Pearson and deserves his place on merit. If Pearson wants his place back in the starting 11 he should do what Thompson has done - knuckle down and earn it.

He has been solid in both the games he has started so far, but I still miss the Pearson from last season. I think this idea that Pearson’s off the pace this season is getting blown out of proportion. He was poor at Ipswich but was far from alone in that. He had a perfectly good game against Rotherham and only had a five minute cameo against West Brom. So he’s basically had one bad game out of two played and people are making out he’s had a real slump in form.

We were very lucky today and the 3 points totally masked a whole heap of problems that on any other day will resurface and cause us problems. But they didn’t. We drew or lost those types of games last season. Yes it wasn’t a great performance but you take 3 points every day when you’ve been poor, and there were far worse performances from other players today than Thompson.
