So I just saw this article about a trans man-to-woman who's been banned from women's' Chess events. www.bbc.com/news/world-66538328I can understand that when a sport is physical that you should separate the males from the females, but when it's about intellect, such as Chess, then what's the reason for having separate categories? It's like separating men and women for Poker, Wordle or Sqword. It doesn't make sense, unless there is some evidence to suggest that Men are inherently more intelligent than women? Or that Woman are more intelligent than Men.

No idea.
However I do know that 'clevererer' isn't a word that would be acceptable from either a man or a woman in Scrabble.

what a can of worms too open this is!
but i guess they maybe split them as the male and female brain process data and use logic in different ways due to hormones in the body
could be utter codswallop and im sure somebody much more intelligent and learned than me will tell me why what i have written is rubbish!

It does seem a strange decision. Is it to do with the fact that men and women have different skill sets. So, men have better logical, spatial reasoning skills but women are better at multi-tasking. I know there was some discussions on this 20yrs ago but not sure if these ideas/theories have been debunked by now.

Don't know if there are any women posting on the oatcake ? ( Seymoor Beaver perhaps ? ) but if not , it might be an indicator of their superior intellect .

I’m confused by this and am curious to hear the reasoning behind the decision.
For me it’s pretty fucking clear that biological men have no place in women’s sport.
However, surely games like chess/poker that have 0 athletic element should be open to anyone of any gender/gender identity?
I know in poker they have womens’ events at the WSOP, but they are womens’ events in name only. Men are still allowed to enter (and some do especially people chasing ranking points for player of the series, or protesting a “womens’ only” event) there’s no official restriction on entry. The idea is that it provides a less intimidating atmosphere for women to play a live tournament, and IIRC there were plenty of female poker pros supporting the men entering the ladies’ tournament.
Maybe it’s a similar idea with womens’ events in chess? But it should be the same as poker where it’s in name only, therefore anyone can play in actuality.

Chess would be a completely different game if you could suddenly say your King was now identifying as a Queen and could suddenly fuck off diagonally to the other side of the board.
Don't think it matters if you've a cock or vadge to be good at chess but how much fish you eat - Iceland are fucking mint at both!
Would imagine it must be pretty intimidating sitting one v one especially depending how it's hosted - are they online games, do you agree to play at a certain time/place in early rounds, etc. If women think it'll increase participation if they're afforded a female only tournament then that should be respected. Just open up a third open section or just have the blokes as open as that's where the money will be anyway.
Chess Grandmasters apparently get USD2,500-USD3,500 a month so obviously not that fucking clever or they'd have learnt to become a plumber and charge a fucking fortune for 'homers'

Think men are more likely to have the personality type that means they’re able and willing to obsess over things like chess poker etc.
I think women, generally, can’t be arsed/are busy doing better more interesting things.

There is always a difference. You can practically look anywhere on the body, so why shouldn't the brain be different too?
Thank God for the differences!

There's no logic to this strange decision. It stinks of idiots jumping on the homophobic/gender identity bandwagon. There's no doubt that women's brains are different but it doesn't seem to stop some women from running large multinational companies and many other things that require the same skill sets that men have... pilots of highly complicated fighter planes and commercial aircraft for instance. One thing is certain; women know how men's brains work but men haven't got a clue how a woman's does. OS.

The Women's Championship is just a separate restricted entry event like a Juniors event. theconversation.com/why-theres-a-separate-world-chess-championship-for-women-129293

Check rates of diagnoses for autism between the sexes. But there are significant recent findings that show autism is missed in women and often not diagnosed until their teens/later. Perhaps it just goes undetected unlike in young boys? Is there a link between autism and chess ability?
