I miss just being able to put a disc/cartridge in to a console and being able to play the game straight away. Is that unpopular? I'd have thought most people hate not having a physical copy of a game that they can play over & over, rather than some digital download that needs you to be online & can have it's severs switched off at any moment & that's that. (I'm assuming that''s what you were getting at?) you would have loved loading the latest game on a commodore only for it to crash at that last moment Ahh the joys of the Commodore/Spectrum era. Look through hundreds of cassette tapes to find the one with the most exciting looking art work on the cover, stick it in the machine, go outside & play some football, go have your dinner, go back out to play some more football, finally come back in to find the game has loaded & it's just some lines on a screen that is in no way anything related to what the cover picture was, eject the tape & go back to step one.

I can remember marking on the cassette, the exact number on the C64 tape counter that the game loaded at. If the counter went past that number, I knew the load was unsuccessful.
Football Director loaded at 47
Match Day 2 loaded at 23
Not that I played them much 🤪

Local gaming in the same room with a bunch of mates is vastly better than online gaming. online just full of sweats and cheats, kills it for the casual gamer like myself.

I hate all the hints and hand-holding...let me figure it out. God of War Ragnarok - kid: "Hey Dad, that thing over there looks like you could throw your axe at it."
Just STFU already.

This is a brilliant one. I don’t need a yellow trail telling me where to go, I don’t need flashing telling me I can interact with something, and I don’t need an NPC or an internal dialogue telling me the bleeding obvious.

Local gaming in the same room with a bunch of mates is vastly better than online gaming. good old days of multi taps, 4 port game consoles, and lan parties! now we get kids locked away in rooms for hours and hours with faceless people on the interenet. a good few years ago my cousin was groomed by one of these folk and well the rest doesnt matter but it was a horrid time

I've still got a load of my old consoles so still bust out the multi-tap post-pub now and again for something like Bomberman or Micro Machines V3, still loads of fun.

What I did like was on ghost recon wildlands when you turned their one mode on as you ranked up and got more skilled it turned assists off as you went and upped the difficulty. Like the clever bastard I am though I tried kill the predator in a event mission and forgot I had it on teir 1 mode and I was at teir 1 after three hours of instant dying I did it on normal because after all it’s only a game 😂

Also save scumming on FM is not the end of the world and if you’ve done it as I have occasionally so what I don't do it once I'm playing, for example if I started my session in March, play through to May & in the final game of the season I lose to some shit team & hand the title to my rivals, I wont reload that as it's just how it goes sometimes. When I will reload though is if I'm on some crazy run, battering teams 4/5/6-nil game after game but it's time for bed so I save it, load it up the next day & suddenly out-of-nowhere my team can only muster 7 shots over the next 3 games as we lose them all, damn right I'm reloading that 'cos it's a load of bollocks. (And then sure enough on the reload we're back to having 30+ shots every game & scoring for fun just like we were before I saved it).

I've just resurrected Baldur's Gate EE and am loving it. Not sure I want to try the latest version (III), although the gameplay is reported to be; if anything; even quirkier than the earlier versions.

Local gaming in the same room with a bunch of mates is vastly better than online gaming. I've never gamed online - it doesn't appeal to me. I think local co-op games are better than ever too, as multiplayer often used to mean taking turns. Unravel Two, Full Metal Furies, Conduct Together (only cost 80p and have around 10 hours play), Death Squared, Cuphead (frustratingly hard at times), Blazing Chrome. Another cheapo but competitive party game that's great fun is Hidden in Plain Sight. It looks pants based on the graphics but is the most multiplayer fun I've had since Bomberman in the 90s.

Also save scumming on FM is not the end of the world and if you’ve done it as I have occasionally so what Agree. FM is a single-player game and people have the right to play it however they want. Nobody gets hurt if somebody else save scums / cheats / uses the in-game editor. It's weird how preachy people get cheating in FM, especially considering that using cheat codes to in games was extremely common in the early 2000s. I guess the only thing I'd say is it's a bit odd when people boast about outlandish FM achievements on social media when they have cheated to get them.

Don't think I ever completed a GTA without using cheat codes. Another of my favourite things to do was to rent a game from Blockbusters on a Friday til Sunday and use a walkthrough to complete it. Did that a good few times in the early 00s.
