Parky. Great memories of his programme. He never got to interview Frank Sinatra and spent ages trying to fix it up. Parky was a big factor in introducing Billy Connolly to the public. He pleaded with his producers to let him on. After that his show had an extra million viewers guaranteed with two guests.... Connolly and Mohammad Ali. He did Ali three times. In the last one he noticed he'd lost his spark and charisma and his eyes were dead. It was obvious he was punch drunk.

Loved that show.
Parky literally couldn't speak at times due to Connolly's brilliant humor.
R.I.P Parky.

As has been said, a true legend. Who could forget his first meeting with Rod Hull and emu. Pretty sure Connelly was on as well and said something like if that bird comes near me I'll break its neck and your arm. Classic TV. RIP Parky.

Rest in peace. Slightly before my time but I enjoy watching his interviews on YouTube. Interestingly Ali was arguing against interracial relationships in one of those earlier interviews, and Parkinson was challenging him on his views; maybe not too successfully as Ali was so razor sharp and forceful that he more than held his ground on a viewpoint that I’m sure most people today find misguided. Genuine question now but, how come Ali’s criticism of “miscegenation” isn’t challenged by anti-racism groups? If the roles were reversed; and Ali was in a relationship with a white woman and Parkinson was criticising interracial relationships (and I daresay a mainstream broadcaster may have been able to do that in the 70s and keep their career, albeit making that case in this hypothetical scenario wouldn’t have been a great idea for obvious reasons) I wonder if your Twitter links would be so generous in their eulogies.

I doubt anyone ever had a bad word to say about him which seems like an epitaph anyone would wish to aspire to.
He never let his own ego get in the way of letting his guests be the stars of the show

He was the best at interviewing because, unlike most others, it was never about himself. He allowed his guests to do their stuff and was laid back except when laughing. He was an institution. RIP Michael.

His rejection by Yorkshire cricket club led to him becoming the doyen of celebrity interviewers; a mantle he picked up from Eamonn Andrews.
