I always thought chopo moting was ok more the malaise in the team was why we didn't get the best out of him he scored ok when played correctly, my biggest memory of him was when he came on as sub against Everton scored with his first touch and at the same time got taken out by a ridiculous tackle fron pickford that should of been a red and had to go straight off injured and i don't think he played or hardly played again that season.

This is the seventh season without MA in the team.
In a flash he is 34!
Commanding a fee of 10 Million Euros.
Nice Bolognia Macron strip!
I thought he left to avoid unambitious Macron… 🙂

If he hadn’t, and with a few less GK mistakes, we could have easily got the 4 points needed. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43353975

Worse still, how shit do you have to be at managing with those players to get relegated. When did we get relegated with Arnoutovic and Joselu? Conveniently missed out ECM in your snide-cunt comment didn't you. Joselu wasn't deemed good enough to lift us to the next level so we shipped him out. Arnoutovic jumped ship to a then-mediocre and relegation threatened WH. So my comment still stands but fucking obviously I meant the group of players you pedant.

That game was in mid March so winter had pretty much gone. I was being facetious with the didn’t fancy the cold bit. (It was a bad challenge by Pickford, if I remember correctly). That comment was probably influenced by the overriding perception for me was that he chose to hide for the rest of the season and protect himself for a move that summer. I may be completely wrong though and he was a good player. His ability added to the frustration. Recall that one supporter confronted him at the last match? We had too many players lacking commitment that season and it was ultimately a shambles. This is his injury record. 53 days out with a groin strain that was originally supposed to be a couple of weeks. More than twice as long as a groin strain at Bayern Munich when he was 4 years older… www.transfermarkt.com/eric-maxim-choupo-moting/verletzungen/spieler/45660/sort/tage.desc

ECM wasn’t the only one hiding / looking for excuses. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/43931931“Stoke's demise is even more damning on those who do not share the teamsheet with Shaqiri.” “The club have not lacked for funds from Coates, but too many of their big-money purchases have been missing in in action.”

Arnie was a fucking delight to watch play for Stoke right up until the very end. Certainly in my time of watching the club from around 2004 or so, one of the best I've seen wear the red and white. Ultimately, I don't think he was wrong with his ambition comment.
Hopefully, fun times like we had with him, Shaq and Bojan will soon make their way back to the potteries.

Fair play to him. I hated him at the time for the way he left but to finish his career at Inter proves him right in the long run. On his day he was unplayable, skilful, fast, strong. Fuck me it's depressing how we've sunk but we had some great times.

When I watch Vidigal play, he reminds me of Arnie (albeit a younger and not as strong yet version)
If he becomes anything like he will be a top top player. And a tad less sulky hopefully :-)
I loved Arnie, he could trap/kill a ball played at head height in an instant, beat 5 players and leave 4 of them on their arses, and create tap ins for others - a genuine 'off your seat' player. Yes he was a bit intense, but you could tell he cared.
He saw what we all saw coming and got out of dodge sharpish. 'Ambition'......Jese and ECM....and Imbula....Berahino....Wimmer....ffs

I think he saw the decline of the second part of 2016 post the cup semi, saw Nzonzi go and not be replaced, saw Huth mistreated and not replaced properly, saw Bojan frozen out, and the dogshite we bought in to replace our aging 'British' core of the team to replace Whelan/Walters (and an immobile Crouch up top) - I'm guessing when he resigned the season before with the extension he was promised a better squad and Euro ambitions, but we didnt quite get that....

If he was so upset about all that (and I don't think all of those things really happened quite that way anyway), the decision to then sign a lucrative new contract seems a strange one... Presumably it was West Ham's own lack of ambition a couple of seasons later that led him to make the highly ambitious decision to go to China...

Arnie at Inter Choupo at Bayern Joselu at Real Madrid Fair effort that Arnie I can believe. Joselu I'm shocked but pleased for him and how he's progressed. Choupo I am completely gobsmacked about his achievements since. I'm surprised Arnie at 34 is still getting moves like that. I was never his biggest fan but to me it looked like he wasn't enjoying it at times so to maintain the level he obviously has done is really impressive.

Arnie (and his entourage) was the epitome of the modern day footballer and their travel anywhere for the cash approach. He was also doubtless a moody little devil. However what distinguished him from many that followed shortly after to SCFC was that he had the talent, strength and match turning ability to justify his foibles - certainly ranks high on my list of players I’ve enjoyed watching in the last 50 years. Pity he won’t have many medals to remind him of his career but I’m guessing he won’t be too worried.

Perhaps players have more than one reason to do certain things?

I thought the thread was going to reveal that he had joined the Saudi mercenaries. Surely that would have been another dream money move for a player and agent who always follow the lucre.
