I think Neil has put himself in an awkward position with Laurent by giving him the captaincy. I'm sure it's based on his dressing room persona because he does seem very likable off the pitch but the problem is he has always been inconsistent during his time here and he's showing no signs of improving on that front so far this season but how do you drop your new captain 4 games into the season?
Neil showed he's not afraid to be bold with Wesley's sub vs Ipswich but I think dropping the captain is a much more dangerous decision, however he may have to be bold enough to do it.

He was bold enough to drop Pearson yesterday so unless Laurent is absolutely on fire in training this week must be a good chance he doesn't start v Millwall

He's put himself in a bit of a situation. I don't think Laurent would have been top of anyone's list if we ran a poll on here - he just doesn't scream 'captain material'. Pearson would have surely been the most obvious choice?

Nobody should be undroppable and competition for places can only benefit the team. He’s definitely on a tightrope after his last two performances

Three league games played. Two wins.
Drop the captain.
You couldn’t make it up.

Three league games played. Two wins. Drop the captain. You couldn’t make it up. Despite Laurent‘s below par performances. You can critique a player even when winning you know

If you can honestly say after watching these matches that Laurent is playing well then fair play to you mate if I had to rate him it'd be a 6 at best. I think he's started off poorly and if we bring in Burger or others then his position will be seriously under threat - or it should be.

Captainship isn’t what it once was. Laurent will fulfill his duty by hosting a good Christmas party.

He's the captain purely by default. The same can be said for Baker being the captain last season(when he played). The issue is there's no real stand out candidate. Are any of this squad nailed on starters week in week out? Then if they are nailed on are they captain material. Its been an issue since Shawcross

He was decent v Rotherham, crap v Ipswich (like everyone else) and put in a solid show yesterday against a strong midfield. He seems to be liked by the other players. He’s imposing. Of our current options he’s the best as far as I can see.

He fannied out of so many challenges yesterday.
He didn’t do anything attack wise.
He was bloody awful.
A typical Laurent display.

It still seems odd to me. Doesn’t seem to be doing a bad job considering the new faces we have to integrate. Who would you prefer?

He dropped Baker last year when he was captain didn’t he? What’s the difference? He didn't make Baker the captain? True, still don’t see why he would be more reluctant to drop him though. It’s not as though being captain means he’s a guaranteed start, especially since Neil must have seen how inconsistent he is

Decent for 70 mins, then absolutely knackered in the last 20. Should have been subbed. Needs to work on conditioning if he’s going to play the full match.

Yeah he’d do. But I assume Neil sees something in Laurent on a day to day basis that led to his decision. Wilmot does sometimes strike me as a bit fragile mentally and maybe the added pressure of captain would hinder him. For what it’s worth I don’t think who the captain is really matters. A successful team should be packed with leaders.

I thought he battled well and made it hard for them to build momentum or set up decent attacks. He needs to be less wasteful in position and looks a bit lacking in fitness but overall I thought he did a good job.

I’d be keen to see his stats as I think he covers more ground than the other midfielders. Don’t think he’s got the ability to be a top 6 central midfielder / box to box player, and I agree with Clive Clarke, he’d made a cracking defensive mid, if he can be coached to play that role.

Definitely a player in there. This season is a huge one for him I think. Guess Neil thinks the same and maybe hopes the captaincy makes him step up a level.

It’s been even more pronounced since Ipswich though Previously I’d given him the benefit of doubt but unless there’s a monumental improvement he needs to be dropped
