Brilliant how he came over at the end and clapped all our fans in the Sentinel and the Boothen👏👏It was like the old days One of those players who it appears, playing for Stoke meant more than simply playing football & earning money. SCFC has definitely etched a special place in alot of players hearts during their time with us. Players such as Bojan, Muniesa, Fuller, Sidibe, Stein, Biggins, Shawcross, Walters etc. Pieters has shown during his last few visits to us that playing for Stoke meant alot to him. Fair play Eric Pieters 👏🏻

He did it at the end of last season's game too, which must have taken a bit of bottle, given it was his first time back here, and his team had just beaten us in a way that left a nasty taste in the mouth.
It definitely feels strange to see him do it in opposition colours, but it's good to see the mutual appreciation.

Glad he got a good reception. I thought we treated him badly and never really replaced him.

Glad he got a good reception. I thought we treated him badly and never really replaced him. We did shove him out of the door. I heard it directly from him (was on same flight as him and his wife from Manchester) that he didn't want a move. Genuinely decent guy, glad he is still playing first team at this level.

The rumour I heard at the time was he was overheard belittling little Nathan Jones shortly after his appointment by Nath himself, probably bollocks like.

Glad he got a good reception. I thought we treated him badly and never really replaced him. Here, here. It was Jones who wanted to play diamond, thought he could convert a winger into a WB, and I suspect not the character to manage an international like Erik. His first big mistake letting him go. More followed.

I can't argue with anybody belittling that fucking twerp Jones - 90% of people on here genuinely know more about football than that wanker, but how do you manage ego's like that at the top of the game? Moyes is a proven manager, not many better and he gets ridiculed by his own players at MancU. Who exactly do they think is qualified to manage them? Zidane? Ronaldo?

Got dogs abuse from some on here most weeks when he was playing! That applies to every player! Can you imagine if this forum had existed when Matthews was playing? He’d have got dogs abuse as well.

I've got a lot of time for Erik! I was lucky enough to be presented with a shirt by Pieters which had been signed by the squad after recovering from cancer. Ended up having a really good chat with him afterwards (after we'd just lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace!) but I appreciated the fact he hung around rather than dashing off after he'd fulfilled his duties.

Genuine decent bloke & he shows great respect to the supporters of clubs that he has previously played for. He did the same last season with Burnley. Let’s be honest, as a defender his Achilles Heel was his shoulder checking or lack of it at the back post. Cost us a fair few goals in the Prem. Great bloke, not a great defender.

Probably especially the new Ronaldo. Moyes was a top below top six manager and a throughly decent man, but not one you'd want to get the wrong side of. But his below top six managing style didn't fit players with a top 1 mentality. He lost out, but so did several of the players. Never played at the top at all since.

I have to disagree there. Great defender when he joined us, but his form dropped after a couple of good seasons and I suppose he never fully regained form, but Stoke was also badly managed by then.

His main role at Stoke, on the pitch, was keeping a close eye on Arnautovic which he did very well

I remember him catching flack when we were in the PL. (While consistently ignoring it and making tons of tackles anyway)
Nathan Jones was a charlatan who could stand a little "belittling." (Nou camp my ass!)
Good egg is Erik.

Good to hear
Never had a problem with Erik and was surprised at some of the stick he got when with us
Along with Griffin, probably the best leftback Ive seen down there in my lifetime

I don't get the love in for him, he was bang average, didn't score, didn't cross, consequently out of position, always passing backwards instead of opening himself up and looking down the line, then you've got the lack of respect to his employers filming nights before games and then parking in coatseys place and refusing move after being politely asked, terrible.
