I really can't believe how many Stoke fans never want to see us play Vale again. Can you imagine a Man City fan not wanting to play United? Can you imagine a Liverpool fan not wanting to play Everton? Can you imagine a Rangers fan never wanting another Old Firm? It's madness. Derby's are about as exciting as football gets. I grew up on Potteries Derbies and I miss them. I remember my whole body tingling at the atmosphere. I remember the joy of scoring and the pain of conceded about 10 times more than a normal match day. It's was exilerating. Why the hell do you boring lot not want that again? Because Stoke Vale is petty rivalry not a derby. I might be older than you, but as a kid they were rarely if ever thought of in the same light. There is no comparison between Stoke Vale and other much bigger derbies, like on Merseyside, North London, Glasgow, Manchester or wherever. It's always ranked in the top ten of the most passionate derbys. It's a 90s thing though, when they were in the same league as us and the N40 was at its peak and for some its never left.

"Phew, thank God for drawing the worst Premier League side who are certain to beat us, several hundred miles away, on a weeknight. One that neither side, never mind the rest of the country give a fuck about.
Instead we might have drawn Vale (who are certain to win their tie and now progress past us and therefore gloat anyway).
This is much better. I'm happy with this. I'm glad we didn't have to risk playing a game of football against the Vale in case they won. Oh and that someone might have got too excited and blown a raspberry.
Bournemouth away is much better, phew. This is the type of game I was really, really looking forward to."

Vale in the last 16 and us with probably a night off is far worse than a local derby we would likely have won.

I think will get over some lower league club gloating about being in the next round of the Carabao Cup over us...it might take time but will be strong and get through those difficult times, hopefully.

That's a contrived rivalry, similar to Bristol City and Cardiff (Plymouth's derby is Exeter) or Palace v Brighton The Potteries derby matters to people round here, it's every much a derby as Pompey v Soton is to people from down there. The only difference is it requires one team declining and the other having one of their better periods to happen (unless they meet in a cup). 4,000+ Stoke fans went to see the kids play (and almost certainly lose) at Fail Park. It's a derby alright. If you want to bring lack of passion into it, it's usually because the unwashed couldn't be bothered to turn up to games (and home sections at VP on derby day were always infiltrated by Stoke fans who lived closer to Burslem too).
