Only a matter of time really. Its business model kind of sucks in today’s world. There’s no niche to carve out there. It had the basis of a hardware store but with no front of house expertise .
It tried to become a one-stop shop but there are so many of them and frankly, Amazon will eventually destroy them all.
I do see a World where it’s just mega companies and a group of niche, small businesses. In my city at least, small businesses appear to be a point of pride but they do best when operating in a very specific niche that they are experts in. They hire people who are passionate about the product/the field.
The writing has been on the wall for medium sized businesses like Wilko that just diversified their market beyond recognition for years.

Now B&M do it so much better. That is wilkos problem, people love a cheap shop and if you do it well can survive. Home Bargains proving another way of doing it right

I found it a good and useful shop for my needs. I hope it can be rescued. Shops like Home Bargains have taken the Wilko template and just do it cheaper.

B&M’s net income in the last quarter was down quite dramatically and so was their net profit margin. Their stock fluctuates quite heavily.

amazon will never be able to rule all.
too many people like the conveinence and social interactyion of going to the likes of b&m to actually see what you are getting.
from what im reading it isnt amazon killing wilkos it is their bad management. Its like a lot of these business disappearing for not utilising the internet and modern ways.

I once got rejected for a shelf stacking job there when I was a student.
It hurt my pride and I've never forgiven them for it.
Fuck em.

I have right height, decent biceps and everything. If they had hired me I'd probably be running it by now and had avoided administration. Serves them right.

A lot of products Wilko sell are crappy these days. Like the cheap Sellotape equivalents which fall to pieces or tears in strips instead of all at once.
There are never staff around when you're looking for things these days, and I don't waste time if I'm on my lunch break.
Shelves are often empty.
I also often seem to get ripped off at Wilko - items charged more than priced up, incorrect offers etc. Not something I notice anywhere else, so it made me less likely to shop at Wilko. Even a self-service till scanned a single item twice.
They make £billion+ in revenue so shouldn't really be in trouble.

I got ID'd for buying a knife and fork set from Wilko's last year as a 31 year old man, I've not been back since.

Wilco stores closing is seriously bad news for high streets and town centres all over the country. Don't forsee a rush of other retailers wanting to take the stores on.

Get my 4 pack Wrights soap from there …..I’m fucked now Well, if you switch to supporting fail you won’t need soap. As a bonus the other failites won’t believe a man can own four bars of soap at the same time. You will be the new King of The Webley of the North.

12 months ago it was still a good shop to go to but this last 12 months has reduced it to almost a corner shop. I used to buy all my stationary items from Wilko's but the last time I went in they didn't even have one sheaf of photo paper. I've not been in since.
OS.
