The weather looks poor for Saturday, maximum of 15c, it's supposed to be shorts and T shirts for the first match of the season

I think it would be worth a try, winning the ball in midfield and playing in your attackers quickly is the key to success and Wilmot seems to have the attributes to do that quite effectively. Alongside Pearson who is very comfortable there and it could be a bit of a wall. He will also have the defensive nouse I think you need in that position. If Rotherham go 442 that team is going to get overrun in midfield especially where one of the two midfielders isn't even a midfielder. It shouldn't be much of an adjustment for Wilmot to play as a defensive midfielder. Winning the ball and quickly getting the ball to your front players is something he should be good at. He can't be worse than Thompson can he?

Rotherham must be looking forward to this game about as much as Anne Frank looked forward to a knock on the door.

Rotherham must be looking forward to this game about as much as Anne Frank looked forward to a knock on the door. They'll probably be looking to exploit our lack of playing together regularly and not being fluent with each other. It will probably be set pieces and long balls from them.

They’ll exploit the moans and groans after the first misplaced pass. The bloke sitting behind me Saturday had already written Wesley off 😆

Tricky to predict a starting line up, though AN has been singing Ryan Mmaee' praises this week.
This for me
Travers
Hoever Rose Wilmot Stevens
DJ Laurent Pearson
Chiq Mmaee Vidigal
Rose has impressed so McNally can wait and play the cup game, that front 3 has the potential to scare any defence shitless, strength on the bench in Wesley and Ty (and Brownie I suppose). I don't however expect AN to be quite so bold. Reminds me of that game Sparky spat his dummy and played all his flare players and we got duly mullered!

Can see Saturday and Ipswich away especially being quite sobering we will just need to be patient , no one knows are these signings good enough , we might be Burnley but we might be forest green rovers

Bloody hell - had a tough time picking my first 11. It's all based on potential rather than form. Not had this 'problem' in a long time.
1 Mark Travers 17 Ki-Jana Hoever 16 Ben Wilmot 5 Michael Rose 23 Luke McNally
4 Ben Pearson 28 Josh Laurent 12 Daniel Johnson
7 Andre Vidigal 18 Wesley 10 Tyrese Campbell
Extremely tough on Brown and hard to leave out Moroccan Ryan and Chiq. If AN bloody goes and signs Whopper Burger then I will have to swop him with Laurent, which would be a hard-ass decision.

Putting a better defender in a square hole to replace an inferior orthodox left back...

I would imagine Rotherham will set up as they did here last season. Start fast, Knick an early goal & defend it.
On the other hand, if we start the game well & get an early goal then it could be 3 or 4.

The last Stoke keeper who made a save against a Rotherham shot on target was Butland in 2019. We’ve beat them once in that time.
