Fairly content with this (in the absence of being able to get a perm keeper nailed down for a few years.)

Played 45 Championship games as Bournemouth finished 2nd to Fulham in 21/22.
They conceded 39 goals that season.
“Won us promotion on his own at times, baffling how it just hasn’t worked for him in the prem”

Would be a great signing if we can bring him in.

Very good young Irish keeper
I have seen him play and I definitely rate him higher than sarkic
If we sign him, then somewhat more through accident than design, we have come out of this saga ahead .
A big upgrade on Bonham ( an ok number 2 )
For me a definite upgrade on sarkic

According to the sentinel...
Saved 76.5 % of shots on target during Bournemouth's promotion season
The Stoke keeper(s) saved 65% shots on target, that season
Both clubs conceded a similar amount of shots at their goal, about 150

So it seems the back-up to the quite-good goalie on a perm is a very good (promising) goalie on a loan and kick the can down the road for a season.
Are there still special recall clauses for loan keepers?

Travers is excellent. I liked Sarcic but his injury problems worried me. We simply can't have Bonham playing the games he did last season.

Couldn't help thinking Pat Travers when I saw the thread. (Age aside, was trying to sort out how snortin' whiskey and drinking cocaine would help him pass a medical)
I'll echo other posters with the concern about Sarkic being an injury-risk. Maybe the club decided his terms were too high to offset that?

www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/07/18/transfer-notebook-luton-home-in-villa-defender-nakamba/ Stoke turn to Bournemouth goalkeeper Travers after Sarkic blowStoke City are looking at a deal for Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers after a move for Wolves’ Matija Sarkic broke down. A transfer fee had been agreed between Stoke and Wolves for Sarkic last week but the final details of the move were never completed and Alex Neil turned to Travers. Travers had been on Millwall’s wanted list as clubs look to offer him a slot as a No 1 rather than back-up at the Vitality Stadium.

A decent goalie is well worth shelling out for.
I've only seen bits and pieces of Travers, but everything stats-wise points to a very good Championship keeper.

www.thesun.co.uk/sport/22653959/transfer-news-live-aubameyang-gvardiol-mahrez-updates/Sark attack! Matija fuming with StokeWolves goalkeeper Matija Sarkic is furious with Stoke City after the Potters pulled the plug on his £1.25million move at the 11th hour. The Montenegro international agreed to join Alex Neil's side after making eight appearances on loan at the bet365 Stadium last season. However the 25-year-old was stunned when Stoke moved the goalposts and altered the personal terms they were willing to offer him. Sarkic had already passed his Stoke medical and Wolves had signed Tom King as third choice goalkeeper when the deal bit the dust. That leaves the gutted goalkeeper searching for a new club and his mood did not improve when Stoke swiftly moved in for Bournemouth back-up 'keeper Mark Travers. That has left a sour taste in Sarkic's mouth. He suspects Stoke discovered they could hijack Millwall's move for Republic of Ireland international Travers and cynically lowered their original offer to sicken Sarkic into rejecting the new deal.

Could it be because he’s concerned no one will sign him if all clubs think there’s a fitness issue and that was the reason the deal fell through. If it’s because Travers became available it’s no different than what the players do constantly.

Double edged sword.
A player or agent wouldn't think twice about doing it the other way round if they got a last minute sniff of a more lucrative move.
Harsh but they are the rules of the jungle. Some you win, some you lose.
If we get a sniff of a better deal we've got to take it.
