To be fair when he first came, he looked unreal I thought we’d got the new Patrick Viera…..

To be fair when he first came, he looked unreal I thought we’d got the new Patrick Viera….. I thought Yaya Toure. He looked class going forward. The game against Bournemouth he was awesome. Then it all went wrong after the 1st season and find out we could have made one hell of a profit and instead we turn it down and spunked more away on useless players.

I agree with you and Bayern. If a bid was received the club should have snapped their hands off, especially given what we now know about his attitude and refusal to integrate with his teammates. To me though it seems like Cartwright blowing smoke up his own arse to show how amazing he is to his new club. ‘Look at me, I signed this player for X and we could have made Y profit. I’ll do the same for you if you listen to me.’ Got to be a good chance it's bullshit hasn't there? Apart from anything else Juventus go for (very top end) free transfers not so much £40m punts on up and coming players from foreign leagues, not their style
Exactly, it just illustrates how much of an idiot Cartwright is, if he thinks he can gaslight us, you think he'd have bothered to do his homework and make his story actually credible.
Which it most certainly isn't.

No one that summer thought there was anything wrong with G. He'd been outstanding at that point. So it made good sense to hold on to him for another year, see the team evolve with him in it, and to sell him the next year for £69M.

I dont mean to bring us the past but Omg, I've just inadvertently come across this article regarding Imbula. Transfer deadline day: Stoke City sign Giannelli Imbula from Porto - www.bbc.com/sport/football/35466315Appears Mr Coates Snr thought we'd make a tidy profit on the signing of Imbula, "If he is as good as we think he is, he'll keep his value. You've got to think of it from a business point of view. We want him to be worth more than we paid for him". & Charlie Adams recommendation seems to have been the basis on purchasing him & spending so much money on him as he saw him as new Vieira! 🫣🙄😬.. Wow, all that ended well. Deary me, if we knew then what we know now & where decisions like this were taking us! The beginning of the end this period was for Stoke's prestige and Premier League status! Seems as though spending & scouting were on a different level at the club at this time, & not in a good way!

Tbf, he soon after did the same to Chelsea at Stanford bridge. But we just didn't think enough about his character

How true was it that Juve offered 40m for him from us? It’s definitely been quoted but I never knew how true it was….

To be fair when he first came, he looked unreal about 45 yrs old Edited for you. Always considered the signing of Imbula followed by Berahino and Wimmer as the start of our decline plummet to where we are now.

Wimmer was just a below par player who was absurdly priced Berhaino was an appalling character and absurdly priced Imbula was an incredible talent who didn't want to be a footballer

If Juventus had made a £40m offer I think it would have got out in the press at the time especially on social media. From memory nothing came out.

The most annoying thing about him was that there was a world class player in him. It's hard to blame the club for this one because he had it in bucket loads but he just didn't want it. If we turned down 40M then we probably thought we could get a lot more and some of his performances would suggest we may have
Also,I hope he regrets letting his career fall the way it has more than we regret signing him
