If we do have the money to pay decent wages, what other attributes do we have to convince players to join Stoke City, especially since we have been a bottom half Championship club these last 4 seasons?

I think that the club needs a season of progress to convince more ambitious players to come here. To the outside world, we are a club that has been underachieving for years with a disgruntled fan base and a new management team still to really make its mark. Beyond the first team, there is an impression of turmoil on the football side with a wholesale change in the coaching and academy setup ( Owen now also going).
This might explain why Neil is having to look at players he knows or who know him to build belief in others . I suspect it might take a few windows and progress up the league to attract quite a few players .

The Championship is all about scouting. Barnsley, Huddersfield, Luton have all made the play offs in recent seasons. Brentford's rise, Sheffield United going up in back to back seasons, it's all about unearthing the gems others haven't found or won't gamble on.

Good facilities & stadium.
Great location (can live in Cheshire/Manchester) and good transport links to places like London via train station aswell as being right next to the M6.
One of the “bigger” teams in the league with a lot of tradition.
A sizeable fan base that will travel to support them (and then probably slag them off constantly)
Baffles me how Stoke fans play down how attractive this club can be to potential signings, think of the big name signings we’ve made.

Agree with location. I'm sure most players think of money, location and chances of promotion. I doubt they could care less about tradition, fanbase and training ground - they are just shit they spout in the interview after they've signed.

Financial security must be a big issue for Championship level players - they ain’t ever going to be a position that they are checking their bank account at the end of the month. Location is superb for anyone hailing from the Midlands or North West. There is still a hint of PL status about the place for players of the current generation.
......after that it’s down to the management team to sell their dream.

Tough when you fish in a very small pond I think we're fishing in a much wider one than previously now tbf. I hope you are right would be interested to hear why you think that is the case. Our recruitment in the recent past has centred almost entirely on out of contract lists and loans and maybe players the manager knows. We haven't ventured abroad and rarely dipped into lower leagues. All this suggest a poor scouting network, has this improved? I like the sound of the head of recruitment but he is very much a stats guy and what on earth was he doing at Reading? As for the manager and Ricky Martin, they were both fired from Norwich due to poor recruitment. Since then Martin hasn't been involved in recruitment and Neil hasn't really had a project which reuires huge numbers to recruit. I have everything crossed that they can deliver and watch with interest at the uality they are able to bring in.

If the reported interest in the Turkish defender is genuine, and it seems to be, that suggests being prepared to venture abroad. The new Head of Recruitment has found a couple of overseas-based gems in his time as well.

What do you mean to the outside world Well in this case to prospective players and their representatives , if they are trying to place a player at a club with a chance of promotion , I doubt we are near the top of the list just yet

Surely there must be some useful players in Europe that we can sign. The wages aren't great over there. The opportunity to display their ability in English football and possibly get a move to the Premier league must be a great selling point. Look at Jota on big money in Saudi League after one season at Celtic. He is joining Benzema and Kante.

Are any other attributes needed? £££s rule with the possible exception of the eccentric Nick Powell.

Apart from wages for me it's:
1. Likelihood of promotion (every player wants a shot at playing in the PL). We are shitting the bed every season on this.
2. Club status (heavily linked to promotion and we are losing our decent PL club reputation by the second).
3. Mates - do they play there
4. Location
4. Jointly with location is training facilities, what the club does for you with meals, fitness etc
