I’m going to church tomorrow to see if God will forgive me for my sins🙄 You have absolutely no chance badger especially if toxic is the vicar This smells like it might be ‘banter’ or at least banter-adjacent.

Probably the guarantee of a 3 year contract had something to do with it. If he got injured a lot in the championship, imagine some of the tackles that will go in on him in league 2!

Could be other clubs were offering a pay as you play deal? Can’t have seen West Brom in for him they are potless.

Bizarre move. Two levels below his true worth. I guess that's the problem with wanting to stay local to Nantwich. Stockport got a belting player for that level. Stockport chairman is loaded and investing serious money behind scenes on training and academy facilities. Rumour suggest Powell has signed 3 year contract on best part of 10k per week + bonuses.

Yes I know. I work with a Stockport ST holder and I was told they were paying Paddy Madden over 4k a week in the Conference.

Good luck to him he would never made that money in the championship with his injury record

Quality player for us overall, one of the few bright spots. All the best to him. This. One of the only players that I actually looked forward to watching. Prior to his leg break he was our best player by a country mile. Under MoN he was our most creative player. Good luck to him.

Little surprised at this as injuries aside he’s way above that standard. Maybe he knows deep down he’s finished and just wants to make the most of it with his family. Either way, good luck.

The main thing with Nick is he wants to stay local, he's not a money grabber and family comes first before football.

There's a difference between a talented player and a great player. To be a great player you need talent and drive. Powell is very talented but just doesn't have the drive to be anywhere near being a great player - what the hell is doing playing in League 2 at his age? Maybe he has decided home and family life is more important which is a perfectly sane decision but he's ended up nowhere near fulfilling his potential. I wish him luck but I'm glad he's left - we really can't afford to carry a player happy to coast along in his prime.

At 29, after a career blighted by injuries, he knows he's on the downward slope. If his family are settled in Knutsford then it makes sense for him to get a contract at a club somewhere close in the knowledge that his career has already peaked and he might have a few enjoyable years left being a big fish in a small pond.
He's a great signing for Stockport really- still a Championship player in terms of ability, but not available often enough to justify a Championship wage.
Will be remembered as one of very few bright spots during this miserable time in our history.

Thought that he was by far our best player when on his game. He will tear it up in league 2 if kept fit. Good luck to the lad.

He was voted player of the season by a country mile in 2021. Some people seem to have the memory of a goldfish!

Before his last big injury Powell was carrying us, not vice versa. He had a very good season in 20/21 and has put in the odd cameo of note since, along with some terrible performances. To overcome a bad injury and remain on your game you need a degree of determination. A player who settles on a team 2 leagues below his level has given up and is coasting on their natural talent. His call but not a player I would want in a side with aspirations for promotion at this level. For all his ability there is just something missing - you can ignore it if you like but no manager is going to turn a blind eye to it.

He’s had injuries throughout his career and come back from them, it may just be that this was one too many. It may even be that a different manager and system suits him better. Not knowing how the injury affected him I wouldn’t presume to judge. At this stage in his career he’s happy just playing close to home, I wouldn’t judge him for that and it’s neither here nor there in terms of his performances.

I don't believe for one second he's had championship offers. He's top class on his day but his day has become rarer and rarer. If he was getting championship offers he wouldn't be signing for Stockport. Wish him the best of course. He was always going to go somewhere close to home. Pinnacle of ambition when you’re a footballer 😂

I never understood what he was supposed to do on the pitch up front, what his task was. It was better when he was in a position in midfield instead, collecting the balls.

Pinnacle of ambition when you’re a footballer 😂 Ambition isn’t everything to everyone. Fair enough, but if player’s priority is playing for a club around the corner rather than being ambitious, glad he’s fucked off to the 4th division to be home in time for his tea👍

He did it for us a lot more often than he didn’t.

I hope he is motivated and tears it up at Stockport, he’s still a quality player and could easily be playing at Championship level if he really wanted. They are very lucky to get him, if he manages 25-30 games he should have a massive impact.
