Is this the lad we had in loan in the mid 2000s from Blackburn? I think.

Under Boskamp he was the main reason we didn't struggle against relegation- looked a really good player.

Should he have appointed a coach who wants to develop players to play a low tempo, back foot, passive style of football who he doesn't know?

“ Little Preston “ rebuild continues , thankfully they have such an outstanding record of long term success we can put up with the cries of plagiarism as an acceptable or ice for reaching the same dizzy heights . Its an obvious tactic to mimic those you aspire too

Liked him as a player and seems to be well regarded as a coach. Seems a good match between him and O’Neil. As all coaches he needs to be his own man but it’s a fine line. Nothing to be dissatisfied about this appointment.

Hasn’t he also completely schooled us in at least two games against Preston since we’ve been down as well? I seem to remember him still standing out despite his advanced years. Really good player, in fact I’d probably prefer he’d signed as one 😅

Having worked and learned with Neil at Preston I am sure Gallagher likes the way the work together or else why would he leave a secure job at a club which obviously thinks a lot of him and means much to him.

Excellent move by AN. Successful leaders need people in positions of authority to maintain the ethos and drive the shared vision.

I really like the sound of this - I loved him as a player for us, and he was an absolute shithouse as a player against us.
A quality player and exponent of the dark arts - something we need drilling into us.

Wasn’t there some unsavoury off the ball incident with him a few years back. An elbow?

Hmmmm let me think.... ££££££££££££££££ You really think we would offer that much more than he's getting at Preston to persuade him to risk the career path he's obviously got there to come to a club with a recent past of only employing managers for two or less seasons? I agree players move for money. I suspect coaches command far less and have to rely on the manager they work with as if he fails they are likely to go as well. Gallagher obviously believes in Neil and enjoys working with him.

I still remember that goal v Southampton, I think it was in the last minute, it was an awful game but that was a stunning goal.

Liked him as a player. I don’t like the lazy, nepotistic idea of just employing someone who has the same ideas as you. Should he have appointed a coach who wants to develop players to play a low tempo, back foot, passive style of football who he doesn't know? I mean, that seems like AN’s style, so yeah. He should employ someone who has the same goals but who hasn’t already been molded by them. Diversity in thinking is generally a good idea throughout businesses. This guy started as a coach right when AN left, indicating that AN has probably been a big influence on his coaching experience (senior players looking to be coaches often start to run sessions). That’s fine when everything goes well but it kind of sucks when things aren’t working.
