Rowett would have got us promoted by now Arnie really wasnt that great, had flashes of brilliance every now and then, the majority of the time he was mardarse who spent a lot of time sulking on his arse
Super Jon Walters should be up there with one of the best signings we have made at StokeNorth Staffs oatcakes are not that bad really! theres a bit for you all too go at! Those two sentences sum up exactly what's wrong with our fanbase. Too many people prefer grafters with limited ability, to proper talent A perfect squad has both of these players See fuller and whelan

We’d have gone down sooner than we did imo. Disagree but I suppose that’s the purpose of this thread! I think a lot of people have wiped that last 18 months or so from their memories because for the most part it was grim stuff.

When I was deciding when to say Pulis should’ve been replaced I went back through the 2010 to 2013 period and there were some awful, turgid runs.

Mine is an old chestnut: Bojan was never the same after the injury.
People point to the BMX thing but that was a handful of games at most where he looked like the Bojan of old.
The Bojan pre-Rochdale was on course to end up at a Liverpool or a Spurs, he was ripping teams to shreds. The post-injury Bojan had some very good games for us (Southampton away, Swansea away, Leicester at home, the BMX triple of Man U, Man C, Everton) but hardly ever resembled the wizard he was in that run from the 2-2 vs West Ham to the Rochdale game.
That he never came close to looking like that player at any subsequent club, and that he himself has suggested he wasn't the same player afterwards, supports that view as well.

You make a good argument but he was also misused by a lot of managers.

In the early to mid 1970s when Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester United were spending modest sums on players like Kevin Keegan, Jimmy Case, Ray Clemence, Gordon McQueen, Joe Jordan, Steve Coppell, Gordon Hill et al, and winning trophies. Stoke spent seriously big money, won nothing and nearly bankrupted ourselves into the process. My contention being that the club could have been grown with more care in that period.

Shaqiri was an awful signing and his arrogant attitude was one of the reasons the team fell apart. I preferred Walters playing right wing over Shaq - wee bastard didn't track back. Two switches and we were open right up and was clear as day every team did it.

If Denise had the slightest interest in football, we'd not have witnessed the clusterfuck we have done, over the past 6 years.
Steven N'Zonzi was under-rated whilst at Stoke, by those outside of the club.
Rory Delap's long throws saved us from a much faster Premier League exit.
We should have redeveloped the Vic rather than moved grounds.
Kenny Lowe's shorts were unfathomably short.

I think we should have made more of Cameron Jerome.
Big , fast and strong, he was a real handful, who could destroy a centre half or full back on his day .
I remember, when he came on for Stoke 3 Southampton 3 , 17 year old Luke Shaw , who was looking class until then, really really didn't fancy it .
Yes I know compared to Arnie and Shaq , dodgy first touch and erratic finishing.
But the age he was when we went down, had he been here , he could have done a Job for us in the championship.
A real handful and borderline unplayable at his best ( a bit like Ric only with a lot less skill and a lot faster)
Not perfect, but selected for the right games , subbed on at the right time , could have been handy .

Agreed on Arnautovic to an extent and Walters definitely. Arnautovic had one very good season for us (his last) and even in that it took a while for him to get going. Many seem to look back on him with rose tinted glasses. Still a great player and a pleasure to have him at the club. The best teams have an Arnautovic and Walters. Currently we seem to have neither.
