He’s looked like a really solid performer whenever I’ve seen him play and has a decent pedigree. Although at his age it has to be a max of a two year contract. a couple of years ago he was excellent, but since then he’s gone down bank and considering his lack of game time the last season or two it does seem an odd signing , unless he’s not coming in as first choice LB 🤷♂️

Squad filler with experience on a short term contract while we're trying to put together half a squad in one summer, how is it the wrong kind of player? Like Duffy and Ward were? What have they got to do with anything or are we going to go around naming all the older players that have been successful and those that haven't.

To be fair, he was really good 3-4 years ago. But so was Dwight Gayle

If the Coates family are serious about taking the club forward then this is not signings we should be making, its fucking disgraceful we have seen nothing but a pile of shit since we got relegated Why can't you understand that we need half a squad, if all the signings are like this you'd have a point but FFS chill out and see what happens. (You're not the only one that could do with chilling out a bit btw) so you don,t agree mate since relegation we have signed a pile of shit?this is not a signing that fills us all with hope,,and you say chill out.we are all waiting for something to drop everybodys mood is low,and this is the kind of first signing we make,we are ever likely to be pissed off mate

The same way he knows that he’s signing. You wouldn’t get half as many people moaning if they knew that Stevens was coming as a back up to someone. He's been told we're signing someone, do you think AN gave him a call and told him he's going to be his first choice starter every week, give over. No we wouldn't, they'd be moaning their bag off anyway, they've been doing it all summer. Are you under the impression then that Neil rang him to tell him we’re signing him then? Seeing as that’s how you think journalists get news. It’s a very specific bit of news. There’s no need for him to mention it. Ornstein and Romano are saying Arsenal are getting Rice because of the work they’ve put in and how Arteta has told him he wants build a team around him. Its called journalism.

Can he play left sided CH too? I'm sure i've seen him play left side of a 3 as well at SHeff U, under Wilder's rampaging centre halves formation.

Surely Fox was never going to stay? He’s 29 and needs to go somewhere where he’s guaranteed first team football while that’s still viable. Tymon first choice, and Stevens back up? Would seem a pretty decent left back duo for any championship team in my opinion. Just another 10 positions to go 😂[/b] Building from the Back!

The happy clappers can wrap this up how they want to. They can clutch at straws all they like.
This would be a very poor signing. Injury prone 33 year old full back is not what's required.

people come on here saying the market is slow and championship teams are not signing many players fair point, but we need to sign a new team not just 3 or 3 players to boost our squad, other teams in the championship have a core of players we have 4 or 5 first teamers at best,

You really never know with this type of signing do you? He could have a good 12 months in him or legs could have gone. So to me it’s a punt as nothing nailed on given his last couple of seasons🤔.
Who knows but we will I’m sure know after a couple of games if he’s our number 1 left back. Also will be interested to compare to Fox? That said I thought when they released him we had a much better option lined up which still could be the case?

It's Nathan Jones all over again. Serious Stephen Ward PTSD with this one. Ward was hung out to dry playing as a dynamic left back in a team with no width. If Stevens comes, he will hopefully be playing in a supportive role behind an attacking wide man. I also think we’ll probably look at a PL loan for left back as well towards the end of the window. Ward wasn’t hung out to dry. He was just shit.

No, I wasn't actually saying Neil rang him, that's my point he won't have so how would Nixon know. Yes and I imagine there were quotes to that affect re Arteta, show me the AN quotes, its amusing that you think journalists don't just throw things in there to make a story more interesting.

If it was meant to be the big signing to get everyone going I'd understand it but it's as far as away from that as you can get, he's a solid, experienced squad filler.

Is he better than what we’ve got currently?
Yes…
… but that’s only because we haven’t got anyone else…
Underwhelmed. The intention may well be that he’s backup but until that’s the case he’d be starting and I think we can do better.

However, I agree with this. We will be bringing in a number of players that, on their own, won’t be exciting. We need to build a squad and don’t have a luxury of cherry picking either.

How come he's played so infrequently since Sheff Utd got relegated? If it's not injury related then I think it would be a decent signing and don't understand the meltdown here. We don't have a team currently so building the foundations of one might be necessary before we're able to bring in the more desirable players.

Sarcasm clearly doesn’t work on you then. My point is you’re happy to suggest that Nixon knows he’s going sign but it’s a ludicrous suggestion to think that Nixon knows how highly he rates him.

We need bodies quickly. It's as simple as that. Can play left back or left centre back. Experienced and always looked decent for Sheffield United.
He'll do for the moment if he signs.

Not every signing is going to be an exciting one, how hard is it for people to understand. How predictable aswell that people are complaining at us signing someone after spending the last month moaning endlessly that we still need to sign at least 12.
He’s basically replacing Fox (who a lot of people were saying we should have kept) and he’s a better player.

But can anyone see him being happy with Tymon as his first-choice? It's clear he doesn't rate him as an option in a back 4.
