Junior will surely play there that's why we let Tymon go
If that isn't the plan then it doesn't make sense
Unless the impression we have of Hoever being no good on the left is wrong

Given how well Gooch played when he came on against Preston, I'd have thought AN might have started him next game anyway! Shows how deprived of quality we've been over the last 6 years because when I told my Sunderland mate how good Gooch was when he came on he just laughed at me . He said that's what he's like he's decent enough but not good enough for them any longer. You really think a Sunderland fan would say Stoke had got a player from them that he wished they'd kept? As soon as he said "but not good enough for us any longer" I'd have laughed at him.

I think the last person to play there will be Hoever. I think he tried it last season and it was a disaster. Playing Hoever who can't defend on the right behind Campbell who doesn't see defending as part of his job would leave a gaping hole. Preston targeted that side in the second half last week with Stevens there. We need a defensive fullback behind Campbell. Junior presumably although I'm not sure he's a defensive full back, or I think it has been said that Gooch was brought in for his versatility and can play on either side. More likely 3 centre halves with wing backs

Didn't take long did it for fuck sake. For all the good work we did over the summer, the left back situation is negligent at best. To rely on a 33 year old (who I'll admit has surprised me so far) that has been injured a lot over the last two seasons to come in and play 40+ games was a nigh on impossible task. Selling Tymon and not signing a natural left back was just ridiculous. Unless they really do see Junior as a Dennis Irwin, Andy Griffin, James Justin type. It's so obvious this would happen 🙄

Yep Hoever and Campbell on the same side of the pitch would be a disaster.
We have to take this as an opportunity to ditch Hoever and Stevens ...one is injured and the other plays as if he is injured or not interested.
Happy to see junior and Gooch , given a chance.
Though I must admit, I have visions of AN dreaming up a 352 with those two in it .
In which case, Wouter , Pearson and DJ/junho ... please please please, not Laurent in a 3
I am begging you Mr Neil .

I'd always thought one of the main attractions of signing Junior was that he could cover both sides in situations like this?

If we were relying on Stevens to start at LB all season I don’t think a push for the top 6 was possible. He is OK, nothing more. The fact that he appears to have no obvious cover is gross negligence.
Hopefully the management team know more about the ability of our new players to play Championship level LB than is immediately apparent from their previous experience.
An injury to CB right now doesn’t bear thinking about.

I'd always thought one of the main attractions of signing Junior was that he could cover both sides in situations like this? 3 times in his career according to this I assumed when we signed Stevens he'd be back up (33, injuries etc). When we sold Tymon I assumed Junior would be LB rotating with Stevens. Wrong on both counts.

More likely 3 centre halves with wing backs Yeah I think Stevens is the most defensive type FB in the seniors and even he does not seem to have been historically a defensive type. I like attacking FB’s but they’re no use if you have to play an ineffective wide forward to cover them the combined output will almost always be a net deficit. AN seems to prefer a bit of a lop sided approach where one side is more offensive and the other more defensive. Worked well at times last season but not sure Stevens has got Sterling’s pace and mobility.

People on here was all too eager to sell Tymon as they didn't rate him, and now we're seeing what could happen. It was a huge gamble. Hoever is rubbish at LB, and Gooch and Junior isn't really used to playing LB either.

The BBC seems to have the same info on Tchamadeu.
Played LWB once (in the cup) and RWB 4 times this season - and LWB on three further occasions last season.
So the idea that he's equally at home there does seem a bit overblown - especially when you're, at the same time, making the jump from playing Sutton and Crawley to Norwich - and in a back 4 too.
It would have been interesting to know at what stage our interest firmed up in Gooch (and with what role in mind for him) - and if we ever considered getting a LB in, or whether it was always going to be Tchamadeu once Tymon went.

Chucking junior straight in without a few sub appearances first to acclimatise to championship football is a bit harsh in my view.
I'm sure leris or Hoever will be given the nod because of and only because of this

On the grounds that he's left footed and defensive minded, I'd have thought that Jordan Thompson was the roundest peg we've got to shoehorn into LB cover?

The only game where I looked out for junior (due to our interest) was against Cardiff in the league cup. He played against them as LWB in a 532 that night.

Maybe reading too much in to it but on the Gooch intro video, he appears to be playing LB in a 11 v 11 at approx 50 seconds.

Stevens not in Ireland's list of 23 for today's game.
And Travers drops out too for some reason (hope he's not picked up an injury too?!)
