Count me in. The entire event is ludicrously overblown. There’s simply no filter applied to the coverage. All the acts are “amazing/brilliant/sensational”. About 97.5% of the songs are tuneless, self-indulgent dirges. Even the excellent tracks (for example Sweet Child Of Mine) are a pale imitation of the recorded version. (As you might imagine, that pint would be a bundle of laughs)… Have you ever been out of interest? Lol out loud, that’s a very fair question! No, and whilst it would be absurd to suggest you couldn’t pay me to go (clearly you could, although it wouldn’t be cheap) I just know it’s not for me. However I accept that mine is a minority view and grumpily expressed. Funnily enough next month I am for the first time in about five years going to see a live band!

Maybe it’s the nihilist in me. I want to be entertained with her pop bangers.

One of the best sets of the weekend by all accords was from CMAT, which for some odd reason wasn't filmed by BBC. Saw her supporting First Aid kit last year, great performer.
Here's her doing backstage acoustic though.

Sadly, just audio available so far ... I don’t think I made my point very well, I was talking very specifically about the spoken word stuff he seem to be doing, talking about being in the womb and lyrics to that effect. It was just uninteresting and a bit self-important to me, purely from a musical perspective. Previous albums I have listened to haven’t been that serious. By no means was I dissing anything to do with sexuality or gender and thought it was incredible how he expressed himself in that way (we have both used said she in our previous posts).

I did buy tickets for her gig in Nottingham but couldn't make the rearranged date.

I've just been watching the Viagra Boys live courtesy of your link - brilliant! That main stage line up tonight is insane ... Kasabian/Black Keys/Liam Gallagher/Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They would all have been separate headliners at Glastonbury last weekend!

Yeah tonight's main stage is a great line up. We've never been to Rock Werchter, always gone to Pukkelpop which is the 2nd biggest Belgian festival. Bit more diverse and a lot more of a party atmosphere. Main stage is always a bit patchy but the other 8/9 stages normally have something decent on. The 2023 line up on the whole is a bit poor like 99% of European festivals are. Worst year I can remember for festivals line ups. foster for me it would be Blackwave, Interpol, Sigur Ros, Dope Lemon & Fred Again (if you can get into the tent)

I just looked and he seems more of a DJ which is cool as I've done Tomorrowland the past two years and before that Mysteryland in Holland. This kind of festival is a first. Seems a mixed bag as I just saw a band called black box revelation on the live stream that i thought were great, followed by a band called squid (from bristol) that were embarrassingly bad... ..pure cringe.

I'm sure it'll be fine mate. I prefer to stand near the back with a beer in close range of the bar in any case. How did it go on Saturday Fozzy? Well, being (or feeling like) an old fucker I got there late. It was also the first rock festival I'd been to so was expecting a lot of walking. Getting to and leaving the venue was easy. Bar service also easy. It was definitely nowhere near the size of Tomorrowland, and as a result I was disappointed to see that there was a limit on audience sizes for all of the non-main stages. I'm used to being able to find a space in the crowd but here they just closed the doors and put the artists on big screens for those outside. I saw that lemon band (ok) then went to an area where there was a DJ doing 80s dance which I liked. Had a few beers/wines, then I saw Fred again (only once haha classic - never been used before), then Oscar and the Wolf (much better live than recorded) and Muse. Weird thing was that both during Fred and Muse they had technical issues. Fred was due to a fault, but Muse I think was because they went past the 1am deadline. They ended up stopping halfway through the final song as the sound cut out, and then played something less popular 10 mins after that didn't rely on stage effects. Overall through it was good. I wasn't expecting it to be in such an open space where people were sat around waiting for artists, otherwise I would have taken a blanket to sit on and book to read in between. Everything was close and easily accessible, unlike in Tomorrowland where you sprint from one stage to another as it's huge. Saw a few lightweights off their tits embarrassing themselves, but have seen worse.

Fred is so on my hit list, tried for tickets last week at Alexander Palace but had no joy, 45,000 tickets sold in 15 minutes!

It was a highlight of the evening seeing him use that soundboard (or whatever it's called) to bang out some base. I have to say that one good thing about being over here is that whenever there's a good artist it's relatively easy to get tickets and the venues are smaller so you always get a more up close personal experience. I've seen loads of big bands here and the view has always been great.

Christine and the Queens Fred Again Lana Viagra Boys Young Fathers Never heard anything by War on Drugs before but caught their set and it was excellent. Missed Viagra Boys due to clash with Yusuf/Cat Stevens (my highlight of the weekend) but saw their set up on catch and pissed off about the clash - but you can't see everything.

Catching up on a few sets.
Cat Stevens - wonderful
Editors - lost interest in them years ago but what a great performance. Fast, energetic and a great watch.
Manics - fabulous. Nice to hear a few Holy Bible tracks.
Lightning Seeds - Ian never had the best voice but pure pop heaven. Lovely tribute to Terry Hall with Sense.
Viagra Boys - mental! Crowd shots of people going nuts was superb!
Working Mens Club - love this band, very underrated.
Rick Astley and Blossoms. Fucking outstanding!

Out of the 20+ bands I watched at Glastonbury, probably the outstanding performance for me was Editors. When they are doing their bangers, not many people can touch them. Tom Smith is a fantastic but very under rated front man

Benjamin Power joining them has really ratcheted them up a notch for me...was absolutely bemused when he joined them but it definitely works. Hopefully we still get some more Blanck Mass records aswell tho
