He'll put some fire in the team He may well do, and I am a massive Whelan fan, but bringing in Rory Delap didn't work out as expected.

Why are Stoke fans obsessed with former very popular players getting roles at the club. They have all been great servants to the club, but that does not necessarily mean they will make good coaches, or at least qualified.

What team? We don't have one

Just because ex players know the club doesn't make them qualified to be a good coach/director of sport or anything else! He did know how to make 5 yard sideways passes but we are already the best at that!

I think each member of our squad should be assigned a personal coach selected from our promotion team. The BEARPITs - Bold, Energetic And Really Passionate Individual Trainers - will nurture and instruct their charges to basically just be exactly like they were on the pitch, thus winning us promotion again. As we're on the Whelan thread, he can be assigned to Jordan Thompson. Fuller can have Ty Campbell, Shawcross on Wilmot etc.
They know the club, they've got what it takes. Simple as. Get it done Coates

Bill Asprey,Liam Delap,George Eastman, knew the club, didn't work out too well with them did it? Not to say a negative word about Rory, but I honestly think Glen Whelan is a very different character. I see Rory as a very nice bloke, but Glen Whelan is more the kind of guy to demand something from the players. If they aren't trying to improve their weaknesses or don't work hard enough Glen will be in their faces straight away. I really believe Glen Whelan will become a hell of a coach and manager one day!

I agree, but could today's pampered delicate players cope with a good old fashioned in yer face rollicking Roy Keane style.

Didn’t Chris Iwelumo return in some lower level coaching role after he retired playing at Watford back in the day during our PL days.

We've had quite a number of former players attached to the club in some capacity; not exactly as part of the management coaches, but coming in once a week. I think there's been several, but off my head they include Super Jon Walters, Denis Smith, Ric Fuller, and Iwelumo as lawrieleslie mentions. They all arrived with a fanfare in the Sentinel, but all stopped working without any explanation given.
