I've not posted on this or the other royal thread before because I have absolutely zero interest in the Royal Family. I didn't watch a single second of the funeral and I wont be watching a single second of the coronation either. If that's what people are into, then absolutely fair play to them, I hope they enjoy themselves but personally I just have no interest in the Royals. However (there was always a but coming 😁), I saw this and at first I thought it was a wind-up, surely they can't really that be out of touch with modern society, it's 2023 FFS! 🤦♂️ As always fair play for handling your thoughts with class. I guess that’s tradition for you. You could apply fireworks night and many other events in a similar way. Very outdated but the best things not to take them too seriously and do your own thing if you don’t agree with them. Indeed Cobs, not at all taking it too seriously at all but rather, I nearly spat my tea out in amusement. People love fireworks but I really can't see too many citizens being up for this pledge of allegiance thingy. 😁 Anyway, that's likely to be my first and last posts on this thread, it just made me laugh out loud.

Although looking at it tactically, this type of thing will help the republican cause in the long run, which can only be a good thing. Forget the worst drop in living standards since WW2, some rich bloke's putting a tin hat on...

Ditto - highly amusing! If anyone wants an antidote to the nincompoopery, try The Windsors last night on Ch4 and presumably on catch-up. Not the best episode, but they totally nail it. Especially Haydn Gwynne. Harry Enfield also excellent.

Thought Lou was talking about Jimmy Greenhoff for a second. No medals, bollocks. I could have worn my Jim'll Fix It medal from the time he fixed it for me to milk a cow blindfolded........

Thought Lou was talking about Jimmy Greenhoff for a second. Well done Lou. What an honour meeting the big man. Sounds like he’s really excited. After those comments might find himself off a few xmas card lists though.

Interesting driving around the local area this week looks like there could be lots of street parties celebrating the coronation.
Lots of bunting around the towns.
The local schools too appear to have embraced the occasion too.

Seen hardly any here (Penkhull) some flags near the church I suspect that without encouragement from establishment institutions such as the church and constant media pushing, most people couldn't give a monkeys. You'd never get that impression of course. The media will make out the length and breadth of the country was celebrating.

So that the country recoups less of the taxpayers money? Very much doubt the HMRC will recoup anything close to the bill for this grossly unfair cost to the country, Police bill alone is £200 million is it?

There was an interesting article on Twitter saying that Paris/Rome get way more tourists than London and did away with their royal families centuries ago. In this day and age it’s sickening that we’re expected to pay for this type of event, I’m not totally against the royal family but it gets on my nerves with pictures of the royal grandchildren everywhere, his plug ugly wife and all the hangers on

Incredibly popular and generates large revenues. And look at what the French did to their Royal Family.

All about supply and demand. Though France has other things to offer such as fashion, cuisine, culture and even weather, as a draw for tourists.

And not in leftie, wokie, virtue-signalling, Champagne-swilling, Islington townhouse-land. Very much Middle England. Not saying there was zero bunting, flags, paraphernalia, etc. But virtually non-existent.

There doesn't seem to be as much enthusiasm as there was for the Jubilee. Probably doesn't help that he's been in situ for several months anyway, it's hardly like your football team making an exciting and unexpected appointment 😃
People clearly have more pressing issues too. Dreading the blanket TV coverage as well, I'll make sure that I'm out.
