I’m sure it’ll be just one joyous celebration for one day for people that want to enjoy it. Everybody else can go about their business as usual. I’m sick of people trying to put a downer on anything that might just make people happy in life. If you’re not interested it won’t be hard to stay away from it. Seems all people want to talk about is bad, depressing news. Grrrrr The only thing bad and depressing is the state of this... direct.asda.com/george/men/t-shirts/matching-navy-crown-slogan-t-shirt/GEM1035759,default,pd.html?cgid=D2M1G10C1 I'll take up the role of woke-watch whilst you're enjoying the golden carriage. You haven’t got it in you, you have to be on the ball with these wokies😉 Link didn’t work either🙁

Utterly bonkers, the RF are now just unfortunate hangers-on from by-gone era. How about Charlie-boy coughs up his share of the inheritance tax he dodged to pay for the extravaganza? When looked at the the outside in, the brainwashing the RF has imposed on the country for centuries is truly astonishing. Bowing and forelock tugging, take me back to Dec 25 1776 and I'd be crossing the Delaware. Bread and circus

So that the country recoups less of the taxpayers money? Radical idea, let's not spend the tax payers money in the first place.

Should be a great long weekend. Anyone got any street parties planned? If it’s anything like the queens funeral should be lots of pomp and pagentry. And wasted money

Money well invested that will boost GDP in May, tourism, and exports. So tourism trumps democracy? Not that I think the money well spent argument holds water anyway.

Money well invested that will boost GDP in May, tourism, and exports. So tourism trumps democracy? Not that I think the money well spent argument holds water anyway. We have a constitutional monarchy just like many other countries. It can be changed if the people vote in a government to change it. The monarchy was recreated when Parliament chose to get rid of the Commonwealth Republic and install Charles II. Subsequent governments have changed the accession which would happen again if an unsuitable heir was in line to reign. Spain restored monarchy and replaced him. There is a logic in not having a politician as head of state, who people like military, judges, etc have allegiance to. Most people don't like or support the incumbent PM, how much worse is it for France to have a head of state most people despise? Cheer up there will be plenty of future options for a suitable monarch: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-65350728

If there was an option to work, I'd take it tbh. I will not be celebrating, I find the whole thing morally wrong.
Suppose I could work from home.

Best approach, imo, is to not give a shit one way or the other. Enjoy the extra day holiday, do something with it that matters to you, try to avoid all the pointless shite associated with the coronation if you aren't interested, and can manage to avoid it, as it's not easy! If it was just confined to those people who wanted to go to London for it and maybe the BBC News Channel, I'd be quite happy with that. It's all the shit in the shops, the crap that will no doubt be on every channel and the Press, it's like North Korea and their approach to the dear leader

It's really not that difficult. It’s nothing like North Korea, the U.K. has always had wall to wall coverage of big royal family events. The comparison is pathetic tbh. People with a strong allegience to this kind of thing will have a great day, for everyone else, absolutely nobody is forced to do anything other than go about their usual daily business.

There are lots of celebrations in North Yorkshire. The Sheriff is holding a ball in York. Big celebration in Richmond, the PM's constituency. There is a 3 day celebration in Harrogate in the Valley Gardens. My own town is having a party for the children www.easingwold.gov.uk/3247-2/

An excellent Songs of Praise today, covering the life of Charles, and including the brilliant work done by The Prince's Trust and activities at Highgrove.
God save the King.

God save the King. Did it cover his adultery? So much hate. I’m sure he won’t be the first or last to fall in love with someone else.

Where's the hate, if it was about his life then the adultery would be covered would it not? I mean he only fell in love with with someone as you say.......

As with most things Royal or Tory you always look for something negative. I think that’s pretty tedious. What made you feel like highlighting it rather than something more positive like the Prince’s trust for example.

I shouldn't speak for him, but perhaps Prestwich would be more appreciative of some balance in the coverage of the royal family in general? I know I would. The unquestioning deference that follows them around 99% of the time is a bit nauseous and akin to stuff you'd see in North Korea, unless of course you're so far down that particular rabbit hole that anything other than blowing smoke up the royal arse time after time counts as 'hate'? I realise there is a clue in the title of the programme, Songs of Praise, but I thought that was aimed at God rather than the king

I've not posted on this or the other royal thread before because I have absolutely zero interest in the Royal Family.
I didn't watch a single second of the funeral and I wont be watching a single second of the coronation either.
If that's what people are into, then absolutely fair play to them, I hope they enjoy themselves but personally I just have no interest in the Royals.
However (there was always a but coming 😁), I saw this and at first I thought it was a wind-up, surely they can't really that be out of touch with modern society, it's 2023 FFS! 🤦♂️

I guess that’s tradition for you. You could apply fireworks night and many other events in a similar way. Very outdated but the best things not to take them too seriously and do your own thing if you don’t agree with them.
