I dont think anyone is saying their arent more options, the post is intended to show what can happen with investors who are not what they seem, whether they turn up with a shiny wallet full of cash or not.
I doubt anybody thought Peter Ridsdale didnt have Leeds interest at heart when they nearly went bankrupt, or the Sunderland owners, or the previous Villa owner, Bolton, Wigan etc etc
We do know Coatsey isnt just going to pack up and leave us in the shit though - but they arent above criticism on the last 7 years management of the club - everything doesnt have to be an argument in an empty room!

I've said it repeatedly and I can say it again: I hope the Coates family will stay in charge of this club for many years to come, we couldn't really hope for better owners. People who haven't seen this yet need to get to the specsavers instantly!

Manchester City have breached FFP on over 100 occasions. We all know what happened to Chelsea. There are numerous examples of bad owners. We are extremely fortunate. If anyone can't see that I think they must be delusional. We must be envied by most football supporters.

I dare say that had it not been for the Coates families personal generosity towards the club, we’d be playing the likes of Vale, Burton or Crewe twice a season. I understand mistakes have been made but they were all made with the best intentions. You can’t question that.

We don't need to re-write the clubs history to make a point about the Bet365 era Coates ownership.

Many people make unwise decisions based on supposed best interests but that doesn't make them good decisions. Things appear to be getting better nowadays, but Stoke has been managed top down on a wing and a prayer since they sacked Hughes.

I’m not denying that may have saved the club however, you can’t seriously say that being owned by a foreign consortium would be better than our current situation and there’s no denying that they were bleak years under the Icelandic ownership. Then Peter Coates came back and promised to make amends. Which he has more than done. Name a club who has had more seasons in the Premiership than us (that have been relegated at least once) which hasn’t spent a considerable period being unable to get back to the premiership. Even the likes of Southampton, Leicester and Fulham had periods of 4,5 or 6 years away from the Premiership. Blackburn have spent more seasons than us in the premiership and still can’t get close to getting back there. Then you look at the likes of Coventry and Sunderland. Similar years to us in the premiership and spent years in league 2. (Excluding West Ham and Everton from the above). I’m not sure what some people expect or who they’d rather have in charge. And regarding mistakes, yeah, plenty have been made but none malicious or for their own greed or for their own pocket.

Surely the point is that there have been and will be many owners of other clubs who do not have the interests of the club at heart when they make decisions. The only bad decisions our owners have made have been to appoint managers who were not able to rebuild the squad of players successfully. Until now that is. It is extremely naive to think that owners can at any time go out and recruit the perfect manager for their club. Otherwise why do we always have the constant merry go round of managers. Classic examples include Leeds sacking Brian Clough after 6 weeks and Manchester United almost sacking Alex Ferguson after his first season. So other than taking a few attempts to find the right manager for our club I don't see what 'catastrophic decisions' our owners have made.

A group of us went to Malaga in June 2019 to celebrate my brother's 50th. We got to see Malaga's final game of the season, a 3-0 victory over Elche. They finished 3rd in La Liga 2 but lost in the play off semi final to Deportivo La Coruna.
It's pretty much gone tits up for them since we took the Stoke curse inside their stadium.
On the subject of Spanish sides, Valencia had better get their fingers out or they'll be a La Liga 2 club next season.

When he sold Stoke to the Icelandic consortium, Peter Coates insisted on a golden share. Whether he did it for the interests of Stoke City, or his future benefit is anyone's guess. If the Icelandic consortium had arrived at the promised land of online gambling before Denise, they could easily be our wealthy backers of twenty years and standing. Who knows. What I do know is, the ownership of Stoke by Peter Coates/the family has been far from perfect. Am I glad they're still the owners? I'm glad they've turned a corner, of that I can be certain.

Just wonder how the Bet365 brand has faired over the last 20 years with its SCFC links? Is this an ulterior motive for the Coates family particularly when we were PL and had global exposure?

The world of football finance is figuratively on fire, you've got clubs who you wouldn't even regard as notably ambitious or spending money they don't have losing millions upon millions every year. With their survival totally dependent on the success of the owner's business and continued provision of loans.
We are no different in that regard, if bet365 were to collapse tomorrow or if say there was far more stringent regulation on gambling in the UK then we would be in the same boat.
This is the reason why football attracts so many shysters because there's always a bigger fool around the corner looking to take something off your hands for more money than you acquired it for, it's just a game of chicken as to whether you can pawn it off before the bills catch up with you. I hesitate to call this a money from abroad problem too, because there's plenty of domestic owners who have driven clubs into the dirt in recent years.
When it comes to the Coates family, I think this is where any kind of binary "Coates In/Coates Out" is just so inadequate, they provide us with a tonne of stability through their continued commitment so that we don't "Do a Derby" in terms of our books. But the other side of the argument is that we could realistically be playing in the same division as Derby next year despite their woe. We came down in 2018 following a TV deal in 2017 which launched PL clubs way over and above what any EFL club could possibly even begin to compete with. We are the only club to come down in that time who have not managed to reach the playoffs at least once, despite being the club arguably best placed to make an instant return and with by far the most stable ownership and this is down to one reason, the club being run like a dated circus since 2017 onwards.
There's been some positive signs this season that things are changing, but again these have come from Alex Neil and will collapse if Neil is sacked because of the agency we give the manager. We are kept in a state of almost constant transition as a result.
