To close its doors for the final time on the 31st of this month. Terrible times for the Arts in the UK in my opinion. The Coliseum, which dates back to 1885, has hosted international stars such as Charlie Chaplin, Stan Laurel, Minnie Driver and Ralph Fiennes and helped launch the careers of local actors such as Happy Valley’s Sarah Lancashire, and Coronation Street’s William Roache (Ken Barlow), Anne Kirkbride (Deidre Barlow), and Barbara Knox (Rita Sullivan).

It is, however they are opening a brand new state of the art one right next door.

It's a terrible time for these historic Coliseums. There's one in Rome that dates back to around 80 AD, and I was there a few years back just before the pandemic, and the huge Ampitheatre has now been allowed to fall into ruin. Such a shame!
