The only goals that count are the ones on the score board at the end of a match , all the other shite is irrelevant Agree that the only ones that go in the net count but xG gives a clear picture of how well your forwards are doing compared to how they should be doing. VA team may only be scoring a few goals because they are not making many chances or because their forwards are not taking the chances that the team are creating. Our high xG indicates that our forwards are not scoring when they should which I don't think many people on here disagree with when you read their thoughts on Delap, Gayle, Brown and Campbell. Hence the theory that if our forwards were performing well we would be in the playoffs. No , goals tell you how well you forwards are doing , xg just tells you they couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards

That's literally the same thing.

No , goals tell you how well you forwards are doing , xg just tells you they couldn’t hit a barn door from 5 yards Let's look at it from a slightly different angle. You are a scout tasked with finding a new forward. You have a choice from the stats - (simplified) do you choose a striker who has scored 12 goals from an xG of 30 or one who has scored 6 goals from an xG of 10? Do you just say well it's the goals that go in the back of the net that count? Everyone lauds Brentford and Brighton for their recruitment which is based exactly on this sort of statistic yet in another thread they say statistics are pointless?

A good little thread here.
Quite a few called last night’s result correctly.
