This may not be news to many but it is news to me.
Former Stoke City Manager Chris Kamara, "one of football’s most popular figures", (Swindon Times), will receive an MBE honour at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, today.
The 65-year-old, known for his catchphrase “Unbelievable Jeff”, played for nine English professional clubs in a career spanning 20 years before going on to manage Bradford and Stoke.
In more recent years he became best known for his work as a pundit and presenter on Sky Sports.
Kamara is being made an MBE for services to Association Football, to anti-racism and to charity. And Clowning.

Impossible not to like Kammy even allowing for his disastrous spell as manager. One of the good guys

Chris suffers a mental health issue that affects his speech and thought processes.
He should receive everyone's good will.
In his autobiography he says he was not given any support at Stoke from the day he walked in. I know there may be a view that "he would say that wouldn't he?" but I'm prepared to give him the benefit of any doubt.
I've not met him but he strikes me as a genuine guy who bares his heart felt feelings.

Top bloke though as you rightly say.......

Met him once, top bloke and I've no reason at all to suspect he would lie about the conditions he arrived at during his time at Stoke. We were a mess back then and anyone would have struggled to get anything going. It needed the "Icelandic" fire break to cure our ills. Also I don't count any manager's term below 1/2 a season, he just simply wasn't given any chance or time.

When I was in the navy in the early 70s I was serving on the destroyer HMS London and played for the ships team. Our keeper was also a member of the full RN team for which Kammy also played. Our keeper was full of admiration for Kammy and said then he would make it as a professional footballer. Portsmouth bought him out of the RN and he signed for them under Ian St John which was the start of his professional career.

Read his autobiography he’s clearly a genuine good guy who thoroughly deserves his MBE.

He's a good lad so much so that my Labrador was named Kamara in his honour.
