Sort of thing we expected when coming up against an Alex Neil side once he starts to get a few players in.
We did it early in the season and in the latter stages of last season, we did a job on the opposition just like you did today.
It’s weird because I didn’t think it was necessarily a 5-1 game, you were the better side overall don’t get me wrong but I thought the score line slightly flattered you.
Our starting 11 was suicidal and too easy to break against, and I think your midfield ran the show for you. That one who looks like Shelvey was brilliant and your left winger gave our RB a torrid time (lovely finish for the 3rd too).
Our young side are in a bad run of form, and when young lads aren’t getting the results their confidence takes a big knock. You took full advantage of our inexperience today especially in the second half. Fair play to your lot.
I think both of us are safe from the drop though, I think we’d slump down to around 16th - 18th and you will probably finish around 10th - 14th.
I would say ‘until next time’ but I can’t be arsed with playing you lot again after that shite!
Quite clearly you don’t need a target man though as Gayle is mint scoring twice, so no need for you to get Stewart. Cheers. X

You wont find many Stoke fans who though we had that kind of performance in us, it was quite possibly the best performance since relegation. it was a pure joy to watch us today. I thought we totally bossed it. 5-1 maybe a little tough on your lot but not by much. Campbell - left Smallbone - Shelvy

I feel I’ve been duped on this board. Constantly reading reviews of your previous games of how shit you’ve been and then you come up here and dominate us like that! I’m never trusting you lot again!

Tony Mowbray is funny. Labelling us an attritional team before the game, even referring back to the Tony Pulis days and now after the game bemoaning the fact we sat back, broke the game up and broke on the counter, whereas Sunderland are this footballing team that like to get on the ball.
The bloke has always had a problem with us since the days of Tony Pulis schooling him.
Double the amount of shots off target and double the amount of shots on target tells it's own story.
The bloke is an absolute melt.

Every time you won the ball back you broke very well. The front 3 were causing us issues and Smallbone/Shelvey/Voldemort/The Bald Fella was running the show.

Swansea away 10 days ago was just as good mate That was a good performance agreed. Like I said, we have improved lately and there are signs that Alex Neil is finally making his mark on this squad and could just be the man to get us challenging at the right end of this division next season. I've been on a real negative for months now with this football club, but even the most positive of Stoke fans surely wouldn't have thought we were capable of smashing 5 past someone away from home.

The bloke is an absolute melt. Mowbray is great value isn’t he? His record against Stoke is woeful, his “pure carpet football” rhetoric is cringeworthy which makes his big fat zero wins v TP even more hilarious. He really is as thick as mince, highlighted on Saturday when at HT with his team trailing chose to amble on to the pitch, shoulders hunched towards the referee who immediately produced a yellow card for him. Embarrassing. AN completely & utterly outwitted him and his team completely outplayed his team. Job done. We are Stoke!

In fairness as well I think we are steadily improving and our current league position is a flat out lie. Sunderland came across a team that was raring to implement the improvements that had been made, and didn't need much more incentive than a under fire (quite literally) manager to produce a sparkling performance. Sunderland need to improve how much time they need on the ball, time after time we snatched possession away due to a lack of control, or as I said too much time needed. Still they are young team and so long as Mowbray doesn't hang around too long, you'll go in the right direction I'm sure of that. Keep the faith Haway and good luck for the rest of the season.

Can't find the link but this quote is part of his interview that I saw..... "They are a very attritional team, they get the ball forward early. I think Stoke City, from the Tony Pulis days really, have always been a difficult, hard-working, honest team. My mind is still like that of Stoke being a little bit like that, a really difficult team to play against , get the ball forward, put it in your box, ask questions and run hard. “The bits I’ve watched from them, they are not too far away from that, have good athleticism and I think it will be a difficult game for us.”
