Hassenthutel did yes two managers on, and probably another change if they go down and they probably won't know who he is It will be a business decision at the end of the day. If they go down they know they’ve got a fairly decent championship player on their hands regardless of who the manager is. Likelihood is that a manager will want 6-12 months to ‘watch him fight for his place’ in the team before deciding. If Stoke got relegated to the championship with us having a player on loan at a championship club doing well it wouldn’t make sense for a manager to not give him time to make an impression. Doing things that don't make sense are a feature of relegated football clubs They might stay up mind

Doesn't seem that long ago he was Boo Boy No.1. Now Gayles's scored a brace I wonder who's going to be public enemy number 1 after Friday?

I want Saints to stay up now, and here are my reasons: - Nathan Jones will look even shitter if they do. - they might flog Will Smallbone to Stoke if they stay up. If they go down they’ll flog Ward-Prowse and recall Smallbone.

Mind you they'll be alright now Sarkic looks like he's out for a bit. The old Default Boo Boy's back in town.

Got to admit I didn't rate him at first but fuck me he's proved me wrong and I'm happy he has. Well done Mr Smallpiece. I just hope we can get him from Southampton on a permanent now.

He’s been unbelievable for 5+ games now Think a lot if it is down to the belief the manager has shown in him and the resulting confidence.

Clever player that can score outta nowhere Gets far too much stick for me

If we aren't able to get Smallbone for next season, I can see us signing Alex Pritchard.

Don't think there was anything wrong with saying his performances at the start of the season weren't up to scratch, he was clearly learning the game at this level.
In the last 6 weeks or so he has become arguably our most important player, let's hope we can strike a deal in the summer.

And yet some "fans" were calling for him be dropped and Powell to play😂😂 player of the season for me and the furthest away from our 11 sicknote is the better, well done will ringpiece The fact I often forget Powell is even still at the club is testament to how much of an impression Smallbone has made in the past five games!

Feels like we've given him so much time, improved him a lot as a player, all to benefit Southampton. We won't be able to get him will we?

Against a packed defence at home, it’s Powell every time

In the last 6 weeks or so he has become arguably our most important player, let's hope we can strike a deal in the summer. I believe he’d only made 15 1st team appearances (anything from a cameo to full 90 minutes) before joining us. Inexperienced playing in a struggling side? Said about two months ago how easy he finds space, always available to receive a pass and I wondered what his mileage stats were. Now he’s currently our free kick/corner taker, an additional responsibility which doesn’t seem to phase him at all, possibly revelling in it. Currently integral to the starting line up

I must say our current midfield three is functioning really well. It’s a shame two of them are only here on loan because they seem to compliment each other’s games. No coincidence that Laurent and Smallbone have been better since Pearson came in.

Fletcher, Norrington Davies, Laurent, Tymon.....quite a few to be fair Jagielka and Fletcher are past it according to many. Tymon has been a major boo boy (he’s a headless chicken that can’t play left back), N-D was crap, we didn’t need him and was a hothead, Laurent was useless when we first signed him. All of those points have been made on this board reasonably regularly

Considering he's a loan player he really feels like one of our own. First season as a senior footballer and growing week by week. Must be a priority to sign in the Summer but will it happen? Sadly, if soton go down I think our chances to sign him will be gone. Wardprowse will certainly leave soton to stay in the prem and then in steps smallbone as his replacement.. The same could very well happen with Pearson if bournemouth go down. This. Sadly, not a chance we sign either of us these two in the summer. They’ll be both be relegated and they’ll both go back to help their teams get promoted. Then we’ve two key gaps in midfield to plug.

I could see Pearson staying at Bournemouth but no guarantee at all Soton have a role for Smallbone. It depends on who their manager is and how he wants to set them up. Smallbone fits so strongly how Neil wants to play that I think there’s every chance he’ll see us as a better career option at this point?

Just seems to me he is gaining in confidence the longer he plays, people were frustrated with him because as an attacking midfielder he was not really creating much and playing safe short passes.
Now he seems much braver on the ball and the fans are behind him.
People mentioning Ty on this thread, he is another that the coaching staff have been doing some work with , he seems a lot stronger to me and happier to run with the ball, but the move to a 4-3-3 is a huge help to him.

He’ll have some choice won’t he? Either he’ll be in Saints plans or he won’t. It depends how they’ll look to play under whoever their manager is come August. If he’s not in their plans and we’ve got money to spend it’s likely to suit all parties.

Even practising his free kicks now Would he? He isn’t very physical, he wouldn’t be a key to trigger the press there as effectively which is the key thing he does for us, it isn’t playing to his strengths compared to the key role in Neil’s system he has here.
