But it really highlights why we should have signed a striker. Because a striker should score goals above all else and he misses chance after chance after chance. Mama Sidibe? He was shit as many will attest to having watched a very large proportion of his career performances. Most people who thought he was any good also thought Tony Pulis was a football visionary, troubled individuals.

It's really weird because he used to be so clinical. I think it may be like the 'yips' for a golfer where he develops a mental problem over putting. Maybe he needs to consult a sports psychologist. I know he has lost his pace but he should still be able to finish when the chances do come. It's as if he freezes. I sort of feel sorry for him more than annoyed. Despite his workrate he is slow and small, so we really need another option up front. That’s a really poor combination for a striker. Fast or powerful ideally both. It really is the first question to ask about a striker. Neither is really something you just don’t want to hear in reply.

We're into our 23rd year since a player hit 20+ goals in a season.
This must be the longest streak in the football league.
*happened a total of 4 times in my lifetime.

If back at the end of the 1976/77 season someone had told me that Hallelujah John Tudor had scored more goals for Stoke than the next 2 strikers we signed from Newcastle Utd combined, I would have thought they had been on the magic mushrooms.
I live in hope that tomorrow is the day that Dwight finds his trusty old shooting boots in whichever dusty, cobweb strewn corner he left them.

I have had great hopes for Dwight the past few months, always thinking that this week will be the time the ice will melt. But it hasn't melted. He looks as if he is rusted out. He moves fairly well when running directly but he can't turn or swivel. He tries hard and he harries well. I think he genuinely cares. But his anticipation and killer sense seems to have gone. I hope I am wrong and would love to see him score a few for us.

The main problem for Dwight and our other striker's, is they don't have a target man to play off! 🙄

It was a good signing really 😵💫 Can’t say I recall him(Mama) being any better given the motivational inspiration of Shola’s enourmous presence on the bench apart from his Bristol City anomaly game it looked very much like service as usual 50 pence head, cow’s arse with a banjo territory.

Like how whelan and now Pearson do a job that allows other players freedom to play mamas job allowed ric to play and Lawrence and Cresswell to catch up with play to cross/score. If we could get one of those types we'd be going places.

If you can’t see what he brought to that promotion winning side I feel for you, if you watched some highlights back from that period you will see just how much of an impact he had leading up to goals scored.

Ric really needed that kind of player alongside him, and Mama was very good in the air too. Never a prolific goalscorer though.

If he was very good in the air he would have scored a lot more headed goals. He was good at winning aerial duels not so good at controlling where the ball went when it came of his head.

Funny how time affects your memory.
It seemed to me that Dobing and Burrows banged in loads of goals regularly, but neither actualy got 20 in a season for us.
The key to scoring is partnerships and teamwork. The are very few players who can do it on their own. Our problem is our forwards seem to operate in isolation.
It seems the modern way for forwards to help defending by pressing the opposition when they have the ball. Consequently when possession is obtained the forwards are out of position or haven't "legs" to get into space to receive the ball.
Just my theory.
