Dreadful first half, but some of his link up play and lay offs second half showed what a class act he can be. Could be the confidence boost he needs.

Have to admire his work rate and determination. He had a mare first half but never hid; kept wanting the ball, chasing and trying his best for the team. Deserved his goals. Sadly a lot of the fans don't see this, as per the scathing and unfair comments about Dwight during the first half in the match thread (especially pages 11 and 12). Some say he isn't even trying and hiding from the ball. What utter bollocks! I know goals win games, but he is always trying to make things come off and I'm pleased as punch for him that it finally did for him today. I don't know what changed or what he was doing differently in the second half. If it was down to a pep talk from Neil in the dressing room, then our manager has earned his salary today!

He was diabolical in the first half. And the second half? ...he looked like the player who was at Newcastle!

Excellent win today. Gayle and Campbell getting a couple each is the best thing that could happen as strikers need that confidence. Especially pleased for Gayle as his disappointing striking form was as big an issue for him as for the team.
There has been a lot of debate on this forum as to whether he is simply finished at this level or whether he had just lost his mojo. Well the debate wasn’t decided by today but maybe the next few games will be interesting. He puts in a shift and is more skilful in general play than I was expecting. Let’s hope he gets a couple more and he regains the shooting ability he obviously had earlier in his career. Good for him, very good for Stoke City.

Had to go to page three to resurrect this thread.
I like many others was starting to despair at Dwight performances but now have to admit that I may have been wrong.
Whilst not prolifically knocking them into the back of the nett is overall contribution to our foreword play in recent games has been excellent.
Thank you Dwight. 🤪⚓️

I am pleased to see that he is on an upward trajectory and having more impact, both goals and assists. Long may it continue!

Good first half. Some nice link up play and a good assist.
Proper fanny for the penalty he should have given away. Scared of heading the ball.
Awol second half, harsh?

We need someone with more physical presence next season, but Gayle can at least control the ball if it's played to feet, and is clever enough to drop a bit deeper now and again to receive the ball.

We've got him for another season (I think) so any role rhat he can positively contribute to the attack will be highly welcome. You could imagine a front three of Gayle, Diaz and Campbell. A midfield of Smally, Pearson and Laurent. Dream land??

I get the feeling he's now best as a (ugh) "False 9". He seems a bit slower off the mark now as your box fox (or maybe he just mistimes it more) and he's too small to be a target man. But he's a good presser and contributes when he drops deep. Can't help but feel that he will continue to frustrate us when teams sit back though.

Yes,decent footballer etc, but 'Goals win Games' and his contribution in that department is calamitous (sadly).

I can see Gayle getting another 6/7 goals in our remaining games, which would put him 10 for the season, which isn't too bad.

Agree he needs to score more goals As well as his hold up play, off the ball he adds some real shit house tactics to a match which aren’t always picked up by the cameras
He will harry goalkeepers time wasting with the ball and count up to 10 with his fingers When a player tries to steal a few yards when taking a throw in, he will motion at them and sometimes try to push them back He will generally gurn and get in the face of the opposition defence , genuinely getting under their skin
Yes, all of the above doesn’t get points but it contributes to the new-found team spirit and dislike of playing Stoke which is definitely winding up the opposition

He also lacks pace to outrun any central defence we meet. So far he has played one really good half and that was the second half against Sland. He works hard and really gives everything, but I must admit I don't think he is good enough for this division any longer. I really hope I'm wrong with my assessment of him though!

Thats not right he's had a fair number of good games, especially earlier in the season (as well as bad ones) He's just not scored which he was signed to do If he gets another 3 or 4 goals could spin that as an OK second half of the season assuming he isn't moved on ideally he's a regular for the bench next season

I think a lot of what he does and brings to the side goes unnoticed because he hasn’t scored the amount of goals we expected, his work when he drops deep and links up play is really good, he has five assists and hopefully he starts to bag a few more goals.

If Smallpiece had put away his 3rd sitter in 2 games or if Brown had put away his sitter you wouldn't even be mentioning Gayle.

I can see Gayle getting another 6/7 goals in our remaining games, which would put him 10 for the season, which isn't too bad. We don't create enough for him for that to happen unfortunately, the balls into the box tend to be aiming for the on running midfielders which is working wonders for us.
