The situation reminds me of the old 1970's joke about the football commentator on the local Radio doing Scottish League matches, who used to start his match coverage each week by saying "I'll just run through the crowd changes!" I think the last time he was heard of was in negotiation for a similar job at the Vale. Some years back I saw Steve Harley at the Victoria Hall with barely a 100 in the place. He grumbled about the promotion and advertising for the gig then proceeded to play a cracking set and with a grin said that he'd be on first name terms with the crowd by the end of the gig. Julian Cope played to about 30 people at the Viccy Hall and John Mayall about half that in the past, apparently. A good friend took his young family to a matinee performance of the Panto at the Regent 3 or 4 years back and they were the only people in the place. It's nothing really new as poor crowds for a good number of local events have been a thing for years. Remember BA Robertson? 3 hit singles in a row in the early 80's and went on a tour which had a date booked at the Viccy Hall. This event sold 14 tickets in 5 weeks before it was cancelled. So it's nothing really new.

….it struck me that the club have got a huge task on their hands to start to get the support back into the ground. Even if they managed to persuade an extra 1000 people to turn up it would still look empty. I know you could say this of any club currently, but last night it really struck home the size of the task. And yet against hull it looked quite full compared Hull was different, Saturday game (so more kids attend - in general), there was a £5 promotion on, no Sky tv coverage option on the red button and we’d lost the previous game. All these will make a difference.

We’ve had two home games in five days and the Saturday one had a cheap ticket offer - not surprised it was a lot smaller numbers on Wednesday. Start winning regularly again and the crowds will return.

It’s not as simple as winning team = bigger crowds We are in a financial crisis and many are really feeling the pinch with heavy utility bills, rising mortgage costs and just general cost of living, football is an expensive luxury that is just going to be out of reach for many, yes they could stretch and pay but is the product worth paying for currently? Hell a winning team does it Yes. I think even 12 quid a game is hard to justify for a lot of people and families at the moment. That could be a days heating and hot water. Even though I have a season ticket and a parking ticket the petrol costs me £20 + for the round trip. Two matches in a week empties my tank which in normal driving would last me a fortnight.

We'll be with you Where have all the Gloryhunters gone?....they will be back... saying what great supporters Shaqiri, Arnautovic and Bojan or Brown, Gayle and Smallbone? It’s bound to lead to smaller crowds. All fans have different levels, some hardcore who will watch any rubbish, and then the rest that have a certain level they’ll drop off at. Don’t blame the fans for the smaller crowds. Blame the idiot in charge. The crowd numbers are great considering what we've been subjected to over the last few years. It's not just the level, the games have been mindnumbingly boring
