I’ve forgotten large swathes of this season already but has he taken set pieces much this season?
I can’t remember but I do remember how shit Thompson’s and Baker’s have been.
Smallbone’s were on the whole really good. Why hasn’t he been taking them more? It gives him a real value.

Like, where has he been all season? but actually the question is why have others been allowed to fail at this for so long.

Smallbone has played 400 minutes more league football than 40 year old central defender Jagielka and has the same goals / assists.

I'm in the minority but I really like Smallbone and hope we sign him. I think he is becoming a very consistent performer and getting to grips with the physicality of this league.
His corners were nearly all bang on the money tonight.

His corners were nearly all bang on the money tonight. I like him too. He needs stronger midfielders around him to flourish but hopefully we will have that now. I think if we could get him for around his current market value (and sign Pearson) we’d have a good asset for the rebuild.

He had a good game last night and was probably just about motm but I find the idea of him as our supposed chief creative threat just a bit dreary and depressing.
Much better last night though and Pearson bringing some actual structure to the midfield definitely helped him.

We'd be asking an awful lot of Pearson. his best performance, Luton at home was in that position like to see it tried again he's playing pretty good, much more consistent but as we can all see he's not going to get many assists or goals from open play

I wouldn't be looking to sign him next season, but I think he's certainly had his best 2 games for Stoke last night and on Sat vs Hull. Whereas earlier in the season, he was trying to press but just always got there too late, he's anticipating things better now and getting in there. His passing was decent and on Saturday he had a very good effort on goal and put a brilliant cross in from the corner at one point.
His corners have been a breath of fresh air. They were all into the danger area and gave us a chance of getting on the end of them. We now look like a threat from corners which we have been missing since...forever. Good signs.

I would love to sign him. At his age he is only going to improve as we are seeing now. I think he was very harshly judged at the beginning considering his age and experience - one of those who we would have been far more supportive of had he been from our own academy. Should we get promoted in the next couple of seasons I can see him being comfortable in the Premier as well. I hope talks are on going before some other club steps in.

I think Alex Pritchard is a shoe in to sign in the summer and be number one choice in the no 10 role.

Absolutely at 22 it is a no brainer for the right price! he is and will only get better, he's starting to look a very decent young player

As your creative midfielder he offers little to nothing in open play. He's not someone to build your team around sure, but as a still very young utility midfielder who seems to be getting better and better, I'd definitely like him in the squad. After last nights display him and Celina are the only players in the team i'd trust taking corners for us now and they're both on loan.

AN knows what he needs.
It is clear he is sorting the mess out just like he did at Sunderland.
And Smallbone’s set pieces were a revelation.
Another of the little improvements AN is steadily introducing.

Another of the little improvements AN is steadily introducing. I mean it's only taken him months to find this out despite playing him at every given chance. What a genius.

Like others in the side he just doesn't do the basics well. His control and passing is way below the standards I'd expect from any professional footballer.

prior to the world cup break i couldn't stand Smallbone, but something happened in december that changed how he plays for us entirely. maybe sir stan himself came down from heaven to give him a proper bollocking, who knows. now he's one of my favourites on our side. really hope we sign him.

Baker been taking corners and set pieces all season and not very well at it,so no Baker in the starting 11 someone else has had to step up and smallbone is pretty decent at it it seems.

It shouldn't really need that though should it? That's why I think March's idea of this being tactical genius is hilarious

Could be he starts making changes shaking things up i.e baker on bench etc knowing he will have summer funding to rebuild if certain players throw their toys out the pram etc.

We've beat two horrific teams which is great but I thought last night it was lucky we weren't playing anyone good. We definitely would have conceded. But it could be a start, lets hope it is. We need it to be.

The best set pieces we've had taken for quite a few seasons every one of them caused problems for Huddersfield,a pity we didn't have a lot of height or physicality in the team. Gouranga.
