No you aren’t the only one. Apart from being unable to kick it with his left foot, it was a very confident home debut. The save first half was brilliant and won’t get the praise it deserves. Excellent goalkeeping in the 2nd half where he got out to smother as well. I'm not as well versed in goalkeeping as yourself and others, but it looked to me that he is a much more confident and decisive presence in goal with better footwork than his predecessors. Absolutely. He never shut up either and one particular call, where he shouted “away” as Sterling went for a header, I heard from block 30.

Dave, I am no goalkeeping expert, but why didn't he just catch that free kick, it looked a routine catch?.

Dave, I am no goalkeeping expert, but why didn't he just catch that free kick, it looked a routine catch?. They aren’t coached like that anymore. The balls move and they are coached to expect that movement and get it away from danger. There were 2 similar ones weren’t there. The first one he was actually positioned more centrally for a cross so parried, I think, because he had to make up a fair bit of ground to get back to front post. The second one he probably could have caught but he at least cleared it so far it practically went out for a throw in. The 3rd save, to the other side from distance was brilliant and his smother 2nd half showed his athleticism and bravery. He was so quick once their lad took the big touch.

sarkic played well , but hoever very nearly dropped him in it
An outstanding one and one save from Sarkic , to leave him lying on the floor 12 yards out, in his own penalty box.
Then when the ball rolls to Hoever , who has no option but to slam the ball into row Z ( due to his goalie lying on the floor 12 yards from his goal line 3 feet away from him ) ,decides he will skill his hull opponent in the style of Bobby Moore / Franz Beckenbuaer , only to give the ball away and watch Hull balloon the ball over the bar.
Was really quick decisive goal keeping from Sarkic and lunancy from hoever

I sponsored a Tranmere match some years back, and chose their right back as MoM, the locals couldn't believe it as he'd had "one of his poorer games", I just shrugged and pointed out that he was quality and if that was a poor game he'd go on to better things as he stood out to me*. The point is it's not easy picking MoM as you're never going to please everyone. * He got a big money transfer to Newcastle the following year

Did they pick him as a reflection of how the rest of the team played? Has any goalkeeper had less to deal with. he punched 2 balls that were easier to catch That was Wolves fans biggest criticism of him there - preferring to punch when it was easier to catch the ball. Makes you wonder what goalkeeping coaches do all day.

I think people would have been incredulous about whoever would have been chosen. Got to feel for the sponsor in a situation like that. But it was odd. I remember Dave Brammer getting one in about 2006 that prompted a collective intake of breath, and this one was up there. Neil didn't believe it when he was told by Nige. Sawyers last season. Says everything about what we're watching.

Am I the only one who thought he made a couple of important, decent saves but also the that the defence looked far more comfortable with him behind them knowing they could push a bit further forward because he can play sweeper and that they can pass back to him and he will deal with it even under pressure. His kicking accuracy in the first thirty when we were dominant was excellent. He also made all the right decisions quickly with the ball at his feet knowing immediately whether to pass along the ground, kick long or just get rid as soon as possible. Such a difference from the dithering we are used to. No you aren’t the only one. Apart from being unable to kick it with his left foot, it was a very confident home debut. The save first half was brilliant and won’t get the praise it deserves. Excellent goalkeeping in the 2nd half where he got out to smother as well. This. No one really shone yesterday (a worryingly regular occurance since AN took over), but he made two important saves yesterday.

I thought Laurent did well. Only midfielder who put a tackle in.

I thought Laurent did well. Only midfielder who put a tackle in. Laurent definitely improved as the game went on. I thought the goalie was the only one who could reasonably be given MOM, and I'm a bit worried that AN was so surprised by that (apparently?). comments about that performance like 'excellent' from the manager are really concerning.

Sponsors MOM is irrelevant, I have pointed out before that on one occasion it was given to the player who had "nice legs"...the people making the choice are usually there as corporate guests and they may have little or no interest in / knowledge of professional football...it's no big deal, it's their day out and they can choose who they like. Plus, the bar is open For me it was Will Smallbone...but then, what do I know
