Is it really what people are saying it is, if it is how has it ever got passed?
Does anyone fear it’s coming our way?

He might be talking about this... www.oxfordmail.co.uk/news/23073992.traffic-filters-will-divide-city-15-minute-neighbourhoods/Which will no doubt have people up in arms since everybody wants to carry on driving everywhere, while simultaneously recognising that climate change threatens us all! I'm playing devil's advocate a little obviously, but if you really want to reduce car dependency these kind of measures are necessary. Probably just the start, and it's going to get quite unpleasant, probably violent. If fewer people drive, more people walk and cycle or use public transport and the benefits are obvious on a whole range of levels, but we're all very lazy creatures who expect to be able to jump into cars whenever we want to, like we have for the last 70 years or so. Which is precisely why the planet is in the mess it is.

Talk of e gates in and out of the zones, can’t for example take the next street to get to where you want to go, you have to use designated routes to change zones so they can track you? Also you have to apply for a permit which allows you out of your zone 100 days a year, but any more than that and you incur fines. Or is that just made up to create hysteria?

This type of system will use cameras to track your vehicle movements. So while there won't be actual gates the cameras will pick you up and if you have driven more than "allowed" then you will instantly get a fine. Somehow you getting fined will save the planet, it's all about money. This is a bit of a test bed, I've seen something about 100 odd council's signing up to this so it's coming. The next steps are for the same application to be for public transport use too - restricting people's movement completely. But for that you need a combination of digital currency and social credit system.

Some madness in here
Didn’t you read any of the leaks from Snowden or Manning? The government/security agencies can already track everything you do, say, predict what you’ll think. Turn on your devices remotely etc etc
Where were you then?
You’ve missed the boat lads

All of which is fine if you invest in and run public transport for the public, not the shareholders.
Public transport in this country is utter garbage.
I'd happily go down to one car and could do so easily if my place offered a pool car system for work. As it is they wouldn't take kindly to me cycling around Stoke to get to site or survey properties.
The one daft extravagance I've got is the expensive motor that sits on the driveway and keeps Germans in a job. They'd be doing me a favour stopping me driving it.

This type of system will use cameras to track your vehicle movements. --- The next steps are for the same application to be for public transport use too - restricting people's movement completely. Everything goes in cycles. There was a time when they thought controlling people working in factories and measuring time would improve productivity levels. They were wrong and skipped that at most places here. Now we are back on square one, but not only in factories and offices, but in traffic, shops and elsewhere too. What are they actually controlling? What is the purpose? Is it worth it? At some work places there are more controllers than people who actually work. At the end I suppose we have to employ controllers to control the controllers, since there is nobody left to do the actual work. H.C Andersen was right

Well, when it all starts, don't say no-one warned you! And don't forget, you won't be able to protest about it either. Other than quietly on here, of course. They've been hinting at the change for years. Transport is the one area where emissions have not reduced, so it's the obvious target. I guess asking people nicely to walk, cycle and use public transport more hasn't been very effective. But then, if you're also constantly removing funding to provide the alternatives to car usage, it's not really surprising that people don't.

I wonder how many of the ever so virtuous councillors will be queuing at bus stops in the feezing cold wind and rain once their 100 days have been used up! Or do you think they just might give themselves exemptions?🤔

As one of my sons lives in Oxford I've spent a bit of time down there lately, before Xmas we walked up to Jericho area, only a mile from the city centre and what a pleasant area, hardly any cars driving about, street pavement cafes and bars and 2 bedroom terraces for £1 million ! Oxford is quite compact with plenty of cycle ways and a bus service the north can only dream about that goes on well into the night.
