I’m not a fan of him at all. A modern day Andy Cooke. I think players like Cooke, Brown and Jonny Walters are often underrated by many fans, but less so by the professional managers Quite possibly. It seems those managers who appear to make such players their “main man” end up getting sacked sooner than they may otherwise have been

Just watched it again It's actually a really good move Can see the point re him thinking Delap is going to get there Still think he should score he gets enough on it Campbell miss is a good save but should score, lovely through all from Smallbone who apparently is 'wank' I must be in a minority of 1 who thinks Eaves challenge wasn't a red card too Mate he lunges in from some distance off leading with his elbow. There is no doubt in my mind he meant it. He was leaving an early reducer on (Jags was it?). He does it all the time, he's that kind of player. And the ref must have thought so as well because he booked him. But it's simply not a booking offence. It's serious foul play. If he's seen it and deemed it a foul it's dangerous play, he's out of control and could have caused serious injury. A red card all day long. If Delap had done it he'd have been off.

Well I did anyway. The players reaction's say it all as well. Ours and their's.

It looked more difficult to get it over the bar than score but he was racing in at pace and stretching to make contact with a ball which was coming across at pace. Not like the kind of miss where a player has time to control the ball or pick their spot. It happens. I don't think most stokies would agree that Jacob is 'absolutely useless', Dave. Whether wing back is the best use of him is another debate. I’m not a fan of him at all. A modern day Andy Cooke. Who I had a pint with yesterday,

He's no better and no worse than many average strikers we've had over the years, when he has time to think he's hopeless, yet when he he has no time he sometimes scores a beauty. Sign of a bog standard, average, workaday striker. This stats site says you're right. Since joining us he's got 21 goals from 20 expected goals. Average finishing. Gayle and Delap are a little below expectations (3 goals from 6 expected) but that's too few chances to give reliable numbers. Over the last 3 seasons the clinical ones are Baker (13 from 8), Campbell (23 from 16) and Powell, but Powell was pretty average before then. Fits what I was thinking and says we really should be trying to get Baker and Campbell in scoring positions more.

Brown getting pelters yet he’s a goal behind Campbell this season (in the league), who is apparently playing fine according to some…

Brown getting pelters yet he’s a goal behind Campbell this season (in the league), who is apparently playing fine according to some… Non of the forwards are playing anywhere near fine. Campbell looks the most threatening and likely to score despite a lot of room for improvement in his performances. If there is a player in the team playing to their potential the only conclusion I can come to is their potential is pretty damned low.

No way was that an easy chance. The ball was travelling at pace, he was travelling at pace and the ball had actually gone past the post by the time he made contact. As such he needed to wrap his foot round it to make it go back from where it was coming and that was nigh on impossible given the speed the ball was going and him being at full stretch to make contact. I really do wonder about people on here, especially the comment about the header in the second half. It was hanging ball which he had to get up to and got decent contact and did exactly what you are supposed to and headed it back across the keeper. The angle was tight and he made the keeper make a very decent save.

This place is going soft. Can’t believe I’ve hardly seen a comment about Browns miss from barely a yard out. That lad is absolutely useless. Last season’s top scorer with 13 Championship goals is useless🙄. He is being played out of position. He’s been replaced by someone who will not get 13 goals and someone who can’t even seem to score a goal. Think had he been our striking option, would’ve scored more than Delap by now.

Delap should be off, back to Manchester. Our whole “pattern” of play is to predictable with him up front. He is stifling the development/saleability of Campbell and Brown and he’s not even “our” player. We are just trialing him for Pep, probably at great expense too.

Only on this board would you castigate a potential 15/20 goal a season striker who's being played as a wing back, therefore nullifying his real potential up front. He'd be one of the first on my teamsheet for his overall contribution to the team. He doesn't complain and never pretends to be Billy Big Head. The first chance he missed was not as easy at it looked because of the pace of the cross and he definitely would have been put off by Delap going for it. He did well with the header and it took a good save from their 'keeper to keep it out.
OS.

Brown getting pelters yet he’s a goal behind Campbell this season (in the league), who is apparently playing fine according to some… Campbell has been coming back from a serious injury and recently had glandular fever, yet he's still our most reliable striker this season. There are regular and unnecessarily negative threads about him too.

Doesn't matter how much whining for "Attitude" and "DNA" some do, they've made up their mind about Brown, who exhibits the exact attitude we need. And that miss was not an easy shot, watch it back at full speed. Been vocal about my support for Jacob. We play him out of position, he just does the best he can. He plays for the damned shirt ffs. You go guild a team out of "talent" (good luck finding that in the Championship) and I'll fill up a team using people with an attitude like Brownie and we'll beat your diving diva asses every time. Guess some miss the heady days when we had "talent" like Jese, whom I'd have gladly fed into a tree-shredder just to collect the insurance money. We've had plenty of "talent" here who mostly picked and chose when they could be arsed to exhibit it with few exceptions. Do I really need to start listing people like Imbula, Bony etc. Yet people want to pick on a player who just works hard to improve himself.

Brown's instincts were spot on for the far post header. First he used his smarts to find space at the far post. Then he used his strength to get his header, not only on target, but in the sweet spot where goals are scored more frequently than other placements. Here's the outcome of every on target, far post header in the Championship since 2014. Attachment DeletedSticking the ball towards the near post, as Brown did is the best strategy. 65% of far post headers don't trouble the keeper. They either miss the target, get blocked by a defender or hit the woodwork. Aiming centrally is the poorest strategy. They are easier to save or clear. Going back from where the cross came from are difficult to save, but they lead to more attempts that totally miss the target. Brown turned a 0.36 xG chance into a 0.78 on target chance. The keeper pulled off an excellent save, but it reiterates how good an attacking header of the ball Brown is

I like Brown but he looks terrible there. Really don't see how he gets picked ahead of Clarke there. If I was Burnley and Jacob is playing there on Friday, everything would be going down that side. It also meant we had to play Souttar on the right as cover and that blunted his contribution.

The keeper pulled off an excellent save, but it reiterates how good an attacking header of the ball Brown is Thanks tachyon. It feels like he's a decent header and he's practiced a few shot techniques like quickly getting it on his right then powering into the bottom corner. But he misses some frustrating ones so his finishing is average overall. Seems wasted at RWB, as an inside forward he'd get more of the chances he's good at.
