Sad to see them nearly all gone, although footballing wise they are immortal. RIP George.

And George Eastham (Squad) RIP George Ian Callaghan (played in the groups) is still alive as well. (At least I hope he is, he was in my office on Wednesday! ) Didn't get a medal apparently. You had to play in the final back then which is scandalous.

RIP
Very saddening when it happens at this time of year.
George wa one of the world class players in the squad who even George Best said was the best FB he played against.
As they gradually pass and current internationals fail to win anything, it makes you realise just how good that squad and manager were in 66.

"What did you win in your football career, George?"
"Just the World Cup".
I wondered if Harry Kane might match that achievement. I doubt it now.

A lovely man, with a wonderful sense of humour, very humble and like all the 1966 squad a real gentleman and a true winner. We have lost so many of them, but the spirit of all the squad and the magic of that day in 1966 is etched forever in the memories of those that witnessed a truly spectacular event.
