Does Taggart’s first game at West Ham count?
Beating Man U the day after pizzagate seemed to really properly kickstart the Hughes era.

Yes Taggs first game deffo counts, completely changed the season Yeah Hughes beating the shit courtesy of Charlie goal marked a shift from TP era Was the WBA 4.3 first game after Vinny rallying cry in the paper? Think it was, that was a turning point

Leicester away, 2016. Ryan's back injury was the beginning of our decline.

I think Coventry away in place of Leeds. Put us in the brink after looking like was slipping that day.
Boro at home when Southgate was their manager. We were second best but a massive win and gave us a real chance of staying up.
Strange one but 6-0 loss at Forest. After that we were a different side after looking like we were certs to go down.

4-2 away at Barnsley under O'Neill. We were going down up to that point.

I always remember that Tranmere match at home under Lou in 95. We'd had a bad start to the season, losing to Vale in the process I think, and we only drew 0-0 but the positive reaction from the supporters to us batterng them in that game genuinely seemed to change things.

The loss at home to Chester under Lou screwed our whole season. Different season that fella Yes wasn't referring to it as same season, sorry can see how it looks like that . Just another game under Lou that was a turning point. 👍 Would include the Charlton 1-0 win another season as the one that virtually out us in the play offs when looking dicey.

Hudson's first game back in January 1984 must be a massive turning point game.
Also, losing to Blyth Spartans was the kick up the arse we needed in 1978.
Matthews first game back in 1961.

Sheff Wed at home under MON 3-2 with the 2 injury time goals.
Sheff Wed at home under Pulis Xmas 2002 3-2 with Gunarsson’s injury time winner, our first win in about 18 games……

Last game of the season v Reading and the Ade Akinbiyi goal which kept us up. Although it was the last game of the season, the turning point would’ve been starting the next season in a lower league.

I’m not sure the Liverpool LC semi defeat was a turning point tbh… although we lost our next 2, the following 6 games after that saw us win 4 and draw at Chelsea. It wasn’t until the middle of April that the wheels truly fell off and we stuttered over the finish line.

Players were kicking off about salaries or bonuses and we had made a poor start to the season. Vinny made a rallying cry for unity midweek and we absolutely battered Tranmere on the Saturday no idea how we didn't score. But from then we had a great season made the playoffs with a very small squad of players but who gave their all every game for Lou and the fans. The last great season at the Vic. Vincent Overson a true great leader of our club in the early to mid 90s. The West Brom 4-3 win was a definite turning point in the league winning season under Lou

4-3 vs West Brom in 1992. We had a mixed start and they were flying but that win was the start of a run that propelled us to div 1 and the most enjoyable season imo

Leicester at home under Hughes in December 2016. 2-2 draw after being 2 up against ten men. A pathetic surrender which signalled the beginning of the end for Hughes in my opinion.

Not a match, admittedly, and might rile a few on here and re-open old controversies, but appointing Pulis second time around was a massive turning point for the club as a whole.
Kept us up when we looked gone, sorted out and got rid of all the bluffers, brought in some good loanees and started the path to the Premier League.
There probably is a match after his arrival which others could point to as the moment they felt hope return.

I was effectively brought up to believe that Stoke were footballing Gods who could do no wrong! Then we lost in the FA Cup to Blythe Spartans, and things were never quite the same again.

2018/19 - Watford 0 - Stoke 1. Kept Mark Hughes in job for too long.
2018/19 - Charlie Adam penalty miss vs Brighton and sending off vs Everton. Without them we may well have stayed up.
2007/08 - Stoke 3 - Scunthorpe 2. Being two goals down at half time and pulling it back to put us top if I recall made a massive it all believable
2008/09 - Stoke 1 - Man city - 0. The Delap sending off ramped up the atmosphere to unbelievable levels.

What about the James Beattie goal against Man City. Seem to think we were struggling until we signed him. Believe it was on his debut?

Leicester away. Ryan sits down at the corner of our own penalty area miles from the play.
His back never really recovered afterwards and we went into a decline from which we’ve never recovered at all.

The 2-2 comeback away at Villa in the first year in the Premier League. We'd just lost at Sunderland and dropped points at home to Portsmouth. Before Whelan equalised was the only time during the entire season I thought we might be in trouble.
Being held to home draws against Watford and Brighton very early in Lambert's reign (late Jan / early Feb). Even with another eleven games left it felt like we'd blown it.
The Tranmere game others have already mentioned also sticks in the mind, which says a lot for a 0-0 from nearly 30 years ago!

Losing 5-1 away to Newcastle, having 2 players sent off, along with Mark Hughes and his famous coat throwing, plus Martin Akinson showing what a c**t he is. The start of some of the best times of being a Stoke fan in my lifetime.
