If everyone was capable of playing like Man. City and did so, the football would quickly become very boring. If they try it without the ability to do so it will become unwatchable. Why do you think that English football is the top watched league in the world despite our inability to win a major tournament since 1966. Almost 120 failed attempts. We have also failed to dominate the Champions league despite having some of the richest clubs in the world. Mistakes and unpredictabilty add to the excitement and watchability. 120? Sorry about that, should have said 28 but the fact remains that altho', Spain, Italy, Germany and France have been successful in European and world competitions, our league is still most watched.

Does it matter? The point I was making was that even without being successful in International competition our game is the most watched. I never said our popularity was because of our lack of success.

I’ve never known the gap as big as it is now between the top 6/7 in the premier league and the rest. We’ve allowed the big clubs to hoover up all the best players, and upcoming talent, and now get excited if a team like Man City lend us one of their kids.
To compound this further, Stoke as an example, have very rich owners who are not allowed to spend and even try to compete, whether they wanted to or not.
The media fawn over the top clubs and ridicule everyone else, even though the finances are so massively in favour of the big clubs that just to compete is an achievement.
We missed our chance to be a long term patsy in the PL, and sadly that’s all we can strive for until there is a major rethink at the top level. They could all fuck off to a super league, but I doubt any of them actually fancy being last in a new setup!
